Does anyone have any recommendations for trailers where the horse could travel facing backwards ? Our boy doesn't travel well (jumps about, sweats up, bashes himself) and we'd like to see if he's any better facing back.
ETS: My friend had a similar problem and you can pay to try them out, then if you decide to buy they take that off the price. Well that's the deal she got anyway!
Just wondering, because if he is only pony size and would fit backwards in your current trailer without squashing himself I'd try that first.
I had a welshie who was a monster travelling forwards, so we led him in, turned him around and cross tied him and he was great when he could travel with his bum against the front (lowered) breast bar. It always amazes me that horses are willing to travel facing forwards at all, with all that jerking and banging no matter how good a chauffeur they have. It would be like us standing up with a blindfold on trying to balance.
Is your horse any better when the partition is out and he can swing around a bit?
He's 16'2" and hates lorries and trailers ! As far as I know he's only ever travelled forwards so we thought we'd try backwards and see if he relaxes more. Have read a few articles and research saying it's much easier for them to balance that way round and less exhausting generally. Anyway before we take him anywhere, either backwards or forwards-facing we've got to get him on the blooming trailer in the first place....hahahaha.
