My miniature shetland is 2 years old. I've had him since October. He was wild and not socialised with many things when i got him. I got him gelded 2 weeks after I got him. He was turning into the perfect pony till he got poorly 3-4 months ago, which looking back had been niggling away for a little while , he seemed to be sleeping more often but as it was getting warmer and he had a thick coat breeder reassured me it was quite normal. He stayed in the equine hospital for 2 weeks he was very poorly but still no bother. Last bloods/scan he had a month ago showed he stil had inflammation so he's been on steroids since. Anyway these last two/three weeks he's been like a different pony not keen on me brushing him and walks off. Since been ill he's been fed seperate from the other ponies so I use to let him go in the garden for some grass after he'd eaten and I could always catch him fine to put him back in the paddock but now he turns his bum on me and rounds round the garden (and it's not a small garden !) When I tied him up to bath him with warm water and a sponge he kept rearing and the same when I tied him up to put fly spray on him with a sponge . He doesnt want any fuss or attention . Any ideas? Is he been a naughty 2 year old or could he be in discomfort with his tummy? He's not showing any of his original signs and I'm very vigilant. He had peritonitis .Going to have a chat with vet tomorrow. Thanks

Just sounds like a naughty 2yo who is feeling much better now. I would check with vet to see what they think but if all okay crack on with some ground work and try not to have the "he's poorly" thoughts in your head.

That's what I'm thinking he's been very spoilt and is now feeling loads better. I have another 2 year old and he's no bother only had him 4 months and he was wild too!

My Shetland rears all the time. I just deal with it like he was my 16hh TB doing it- regain control, quick smack on the shoulder or neck and then resume. If you need to put a bridle on him for bathing then that's fine.

Just sounds like a regular 2yo to be honest (: just don't let him get away with bad things as that's when they become little devils!

Edited to add: has anyone ever seen a Shetland sized chifney? :,) If they do, you could try it, but because theyre so small I'm not sure it is worth it.
