Owned horse for 3 years he is an exracer, went out on loan last summer, ususally very quiet and ploddy had issues with loaner and got him back, was more or less the same when he came back still riding quietly but has started gently tossing his head no major issues! However started to get a bit prancy and getting a bit spooky, one time on way home did a massive buck out and then the last time i rode him he was a bit prancy blowing a lot but quite good really considering how he has been, so just about home and with that he arched his back bronced and then reared up verticle to the point of nearly going over!

He has also started rubbing his nose a lot when out in his field which lead me to think he could maybe starting to become a head sh aker.
So far i have had his back and saddle checked nothing wrong there getting his teeth done and vet out this week.

Could this really just be behavioural issues?

Could be a pollen allergy developing. There's a lot of Rape and tree pollen in the air at this time of year. If the behaviour settled down later on and redeveloped around this time next year, you might see a pattern developing.

On the other hand, it's Spring and he may just be feeling extra 'fresh' after a long winter and pushing his luck with you. That said, vertical rearing is no joke so it's good you're having the vet out next week. I'm sure the vet will be able shed light on whether it's an allergy problem, pain or something else entirely.

Hope you can get it sorted. Do let us know what happens. :)
