i bought a pony as a ''project'' to break in and sell to make some money and have some more experience of breaking in etc... and i want to pay for my colt once he's weaned. my pony is now advertised, and a lady rang today and asked the usual questions and when she asked why im selling her i told her why, and i want to start doing it more often but only one horse/pony at a time, when me and a friend were waiting for the lady this evening (i keep her with my friends projects) and she's a AI, i told her what the conversation was and when i told her what i said my reasons of selling were, she said if that was her she wouldn't have bothered coming to view the pony???!!! can you see that theres anything wrong with saying that? i was telling the truth!! oh she said that would make me sound like a horse dealer!

but she sells and buys alot more than me so that would make her a dealer!!

Honesty is always the best policy - but as Weezy says, you can be always be economical with the truth....without lying. I would advise that when selling a project you talk about all the positives and any negatives that might have bearing on the sale - anything which has really nothing to do with the sale, doesn't really need to have a whole lot of air-time.

Next time; just say you have taken him to where you want to take him to and he is ready to go on to the next phase in his training.

Agree with Tia and Weezy, you can tell the truth but keep it in a positive light. I wouldn't mention that I wanted to use this horse to get experience of breaking in!

Hi,
I do sort of the same and so far, never had a problem with people thinking I'm a dealer.
BUT I'm very careful about how I sell/what I tell them, and am scrupulously honest. I have a website that's dedicated to the horse in question so they can actually go and see that I'm being honest. It's got now so that actually, I have current owners of previous projects sending friends to me!
However I wouldn't say you want experience with backing and bringing on, say it's what you enjoy doing! Sounds more like you'll have done a good job and it's probably the truth or you wouldn't have bothered trying, because we all know it's not easy to do it properly and it's a big responsiblity.
