Im going to see a horse soon and the sellers have said theyre selling due to college commitments but that next year they're probably going to look for another horse.

What do you think?

Plausible but not very responsible people!

TBH though if they are young it may have been a question of parents financing either horse/rider initially and then rider not having time/funds to get through college with a horse.

Also: ppl do do 'year in industry/abroad/whatever' type sandwich courses these days that could explain it too.

As always, eyes open!

That's kind of how I bought my horse, the girl who owned him was going away to college to do some sort of equine course. They could take their horses but everyone would get to ride them and she didn't want that for T. She sold him back to the dealer she had bought him from... then I bought him.

I know she bought another horse when she finished college as I saw her out and about competing. It sounds a completely plausible reason to me; with the number of loan-gone-very-wrong stories we hear I think a lot of people would rather sell.

:)

The horse sounds just what Im after so Ill see when I go to view him.
If the horse sounds like what you're looking for then forget about expending energy wondering why it's up for sale and take the horse at face value. Hey I've heard every excuse and reason in the book, so much so I'm not interested in hearing about them; I'm only interested in whether the horse is right for me or not. Hope the viewing works out well for you.

rhino - even though they're getting another one next year? Okay. Im getting fed up of horse hunting now.

How long is the course? HNC/HNDs are only a year I think. The girl that had T before me was doing her PTT/AI so that was only a year. Or maybe the college doesn't allow 1st years to have their own horses at college (I know at least one which does this). If it sounds great in every other way then it's surely worth a visit? :) Good luck with whatever you decide.
