So my hunters died on me after about 2years wear and after reading reviews it seems the quality of them has gone downhill, so I need some new wellies for getting horses in and out of very muddy fields on a daily basis, dont want to spend a fortune but Iv tried a cheapo pair which lasted about 8 weeks ! budget is around £80

Just been asking the same thing, i went with the hunter neoprene balmorals as there alot stronger than the regular hunters plus they come with 1 years warranty, so if they let water in/split they can go right back! The shooting forums seems to recommend them :)

Mine where around £80 online

After my "original" hunters finally died, I got through 2 pairs of the newer version in no time at all - they really have gone downhill, more designed for wandering round town in than going near mud, such a shame.
Loads of people recommended the Ariat wellies to me - I bought them and am in love!! Highly recommend, they're SO warm (don't need my warm socks with them!) and really comfortable. Seem so durable as well, I'm sure they'll last forever - and with ariat customer service being as good as it is I don't have any worries. Lovelovelove.

I converted from the Hunters that were lasting 6 months, 2 years ago to the neoprene lined Le Chameaus, which have so far lasted 2 years in NE Scotland being worn 24x7 and are fantastic, much much better quality rubber and better made and much warmer.

Mine were £90 odd online but given the lasting nature of them Ive actually saved money already with them compared to the Hunters.

I you really like Hunter then Barbour make exactly the same design except made out of 100% rubber so shouldn't get the problems of splitting like with the Hunter. The problem with a lot of the cheaper boots is that there is a certain amount of chalk within the rubber compound leading to cracking and perishing. Both Barbour and the Aigle boots are made with 100% rubber. I must admit I would choose Aigle all the way. Their sole is so much more robust than that of Hunter/Barbour/Joules etc which is very handy if you have a horse or dog that pulls! You can tell I sell wellies as part of my job!!!!
