After bringing a shivering horse in from the rain an hour ago I think I need to invest in a new turnout rug! Does anyone have any recommendations as there are so many makes and I've had a lot of bad luck with some makes :( My budget is not the biggest due to it coming out my Saturday job wages!

Thanks everyone. :)

depends on the type of horse wetherbeeta ones are top quality and good value for what they give personally i love my mark todd combo (blue one) its great doesnt rub and keeps them warm and dry was only £60 in a sale so shop around

It will be for one of our connemaras, she fits a 5.6' and is 14.1. The one that I haven't been impressed with (surprisingly!) has been her weatherbeeta one at the moment. Only had it two years and its done for, she only goes out on average 4 hours a day in it.

I love my Weatherbeeta heavy weight, very waterproof, no trashing so far (touch wood!), and fits him well. Shop around though, they can be expensive but bargains can be found, Equestrian Clearance often have them going for cheaper :) xx

I love Horseware rugs. :) The 1200d Amigo has been well tested by some of my horses, out all hours in horrid weather and they have been fab. :)

You will probably need to get a 5'9 as they do come up small. They don't have leg straps, so some people in very windy areas don't like them. However I've never had one come off and we have had some strong winds this winter.

ETA. Here are my lot in their HW rugs.

Horseware Rhino, Horseware Duo, Horseware Amigo, and Dominick. Three of those horses have MW Amigos too. ;)

A friend of mine uses Axiom rugs on her horse and she loves them. Search for them on ebay :)

I swear by Premier Equine rugs, but they can be quite expensive unless your lucky enough to find a bargain!

Do seriously consider a 5'9 though, Amigos are cut closer around the neck than Weatherbeeta and they do come up short compared to other makes.

Premier equine have kept my delicate flower mare warm and dry, in fact she hasn't even needed the heaviest one!

I like Mark Todd as they have a front vent and my middleweight hunter spent 3 monts out after HOYS and I only put a hood on for the last 4 weeks. There were no rub marks and it did not move.
