I've decided to go further into debt and go for waxed sand for my indoor school. I would appreciate some advice as to which brand. Here is where I got to:
1. Love Andrews Bowen material but with the Olympics their prices have shot up 20 to 30% - it's ridiculous !
2. Martin Collins, nice too, expensive too but not as much as previous but they are so far from me that the shipment alone would cost over £4,000 + VAT - incredible...
4. Finally Equestrian Surfaces is the least silly as far as price and shipment go but they have weird lumpy bits of carpets in the sand that I'm not fond of...

Can anyone recommend anything else ? If not, which would you go for ?

Many thanks for your help and perspective.

I can't tell you anything useful about building arenas (sorry), but I can tell you that they are selling the surface from the Olympics for £100 per tonne (sorry again no idea if this is good or bad). Which might get you some barely used surface at a cheaper price.

I'd love to buy it up, but have nowhere to put it given that I live in a small terraced house with a tiny garden!

Hi

Thanks for the tip ! Yes I did talk to Andrews Bowen. £100 for a used surface when the new one used to cost £110 :-( Plus I live far north so transport costs are really crazy.

I cannot believe there are only 3 choices for waxed sand in the UK... Surely someone must know other folks ?

There are other companies that do waxed surfaces, but to be honest I wouldn't use anyone else but Andrews Bowen or Martin Collins. I'm having Andrews Bowen Propell Indoor surface for my new indoor as their Prowax is too hard on the horses legs for everyday use.

Lucky you. AB are brilliant and their surfaces ride really well at all the venues I have been to. As with any, maintenance is key.

Having said that, I have an Equestrian Surfaces one on my outdoor and I am delighted with its performance, wet or dry. I had it installed pre Andrews Bowen forming, or I'd have definitely used them Their NW depot is a mile from me :D :D :D

Thanks a lot guys !
I find it amazing that over the country it all boils down to just 3 companies... I guess the market is just not big enough - although all 3 are pretty busy selling and don't seem to be affected by the recession.
