My new saddle will be arriving Mon/Tues and I need a girth, having only had a dressage saddle previously, this one is a GP. Berry has had issues this winter with sensitivity to feeds and I've splashed out on a gorgeous top quality full sheepskin numnah for him, so I want a good quality girth that breathes, but not fleece/sheepskin, as from previous exerience I find them too high maintainance as a girth material. Has anyone any suggestions please? Thanks guys, xx

Ahhh thanks for that, but I don't like those, as IMO they are not very humane. Too easy to over tighten them and the D ring that serves as a pulley can casue pressure points. Thanks for the suggestion though, you weren't to know that I didn't like them!

i use the Thoroughgood one's and the wintec elastic, don't have any probs with rubbing etc.

or the stubben cord ones- i've been recommended to get one of those for my rather rotund welsh cob, as i have problems with his saddle slipping on one side, these i've been told spread wider.... in the process of getting one!

hope this helps.
haven't had any dealings with the leather girths or anything else i'm afraid!

I love the wintec girthes, they have hidden elastic in the centre so stretch evenly.

Not sure it would be breathable though, how about one but with a washable sleeve. I have a 50" wintec you could try. Also a 46 or 44

Wintec. It's elastic in the middle of the girth so dosent put any strain on the saddle or horses back.Very easy to keep clean and breathable.I use the Atherstone shaped.

Wintec elastic one is v good - agree about the 'humane girths' being anything but!

But the best ones ever, esp if you have roly poly pone so have to make sure girth is firmly done up are the Kieffer neoprene ones, They are incredibly comfy for the horse, wash brilliantly and Ive never found a horse that didnt go better in one. My oldest one I got 8 years ago and it looks like new. Worth every penny.

OOoo Might have to take you up on that lovely offer, thank you!!! LOL, I think I'll be looking at the veiw between his front legs with a 50 inch girth - PMSL!! I borrowed a girth from my YO yesterday to measure on him, to check for length, though the girth had no bleeding measurement on it. I did measure it against the measuring stick and it was 11hh (LMAO), so that must mean it was 44 ins right?

I have a keiffer neoprene one for my dressage saddle. Do they come in other styles? Where do I find them? I stumbled across mine on here (I got it from a forum member). I agree, absolutely lovely and solved a lot of my previous horses issues with girthing up.

Is - try the stubben cord girths - they are fantastic - move with the horse, no elastic so no problems with saddle moving and if you go to Divoza.co.uk you can buy them for about £9. I have them on all my horses and have done for years - fantasic. Never pinch rub or get too sweaty - and you can stick them in a bucket of water and sloosh them round - or bung them in the machine at about 30 and they come up perfect. Have had one of mine about 7 years and it is still perfect and it gets used at least 5 times a week.

I agree about the stubben cord girth that is what my physio advises me to use.Owen loves those- it is the only girth he doesnt pull a face about. Cannot bear the wintecs with elastic on them!

Profesional choice. Elastic both ends, ridiculously soft and slightly grippy so you dont have to over tighten, and really wide so good pressure bearing surface. Love mine, and Goddy accepts it which is a first for a girth!!

Thank you! My sister swears by the one I bought for her.... I was just worried about his old wrinkly skin getting caught..... Also I know Patches doesn't much care for hers.....

I might have to pack mine away if I get PF's saddle adjusted so the girth buckles aren't right under my leg. They'd be too short for Berry I think!

He'll need a 44 or 46 inch......

You won't beat a leather shaped girth with elastication at both ends. We were lucky enough to get one very cheaply for Oscar the cob, & even though he's pretty rotund the saddle never slips now!!
