I am one of those riders who had a lesson at the age of 11 to make sure I could stay on at walk and trot and then spent the next 40 years happily riding.

Now I have a green horse (sec D) who my trainer and I are bringing on. She has been lunged fortnightly by my trainer since January and I have stuck to hacking out, pleasure rides, a tiny bit of jumping.

Now in the lessons we have started ridden work in the school and fortnightly lessons but I really need a good book or DVD to help me to ride her better. She is a blank canvas and I want to do everything right by her in between lessons.

Any suggestions of good basic resources that will help me sit better and communicate with her better would be most welcome.

This is her in a lesson

I liked Mary Wanless ride with your mind (essentials) - although helped by going to one of her clinics too so not sure how this would be just using the book alone, but I found it easy to read and helpful with some good tips for rider position.

Books like 100 Ways series might be worth a look as well e.g. http://www.amazon.com/Ways-Improve-Your-Horses-Schooling/dp/0715321900 if you're after schooling ideas?

Hope those links work, not sure about the new format!

I like Sylvia Loch as I find her way of explaining things really useful. Lots of "oh yeah!" moments when reading her books.
Lovely horse!
