Am on the look out for a lightweight summer sheet type turnout rug for my sons Dartmoor cross pony, its needed to keep him clean and to get him used to rugs, and offer a bit of protection from the rain without getting him hot when the sun comes out. I don’t want to spend loads as he is growing so will only be moving it on in a few months time. Does such a rug exist?

At the moment its knowing what to do with them rug wise of a morning, as at 8am its foggy and quite cold, then baking at lunch time moving back to cold at 3pm, my Tb finds it too cold first/last thing without, but is a little sweaty if he has his lightweight on at lunch time, but of course with going to work I have to make the decision am whether to rug or not to rug, then they have to cope until 5.30pm.

If you want to get him used to rugs and not get too hot, how about buying a cheap mesh fly rug? My grey wears one on days when I need him clean for a competition. In fact I find a day in one of them usually eliminates the need for a bath!
They aren't waterproof though so you would have to put a rain sheet on for rainy days, Amigos are good. My connie x lives out during the summer and I only rug him when I know it is going to rain as I would rather him be chilly than too hot and sweaty under a rain sheet.

The Amigo 600D lite is definately worth a try, I've got one for my arab and it fits him great, a friend's also got one for her ISH which fits him great too, so they fit different shaped horses. A cheaper rug to try would be the Saxon lite, I work in a tack shop and we've sold loads of these.
