after a thick turnout rug (400 - 450g) with a neck (either combo or detactable) but needs to be cheap as poss!

Dont have any in premier equine sale that will fit my horse

How heavy is the Mark Todd heavyweight combo? That's very very warm. My TB roasts in it and it's too hot for most days...can't imagien you'd need anything thicker than that

I got mine in the Old Dairy Saddlery sale, it cost about £70.

Further to the suggestions of the helpful HHO folks, I bought a full neck underrug (Weatherbeeta) of 200g to pop under a MW/HW rug...this works a treat, and I can actually fit it in my washing machine to keep it clean.
Perhaps that would be a cheaper alternative if you're poor like me.

I recently bought a turnout rug from Tesco - it has a detachable neck. It has 300gm fill I think and seems really thick (so maybe ok for you?) and it is a 1200 dernier which is pretty hard wearing (my youngster likes shreddng rugs). It was half price in their sale so about £40. I havent tried it on yet but I have bought tesco rugs before and found them to be quite a good fit for my chunky CB and also for my Anglo.

I would definitely rate Tesco rugs higher than the requisite rugs from Robinsons (if you are looking for a cheap rug).

Otherwise, for mid-price I prefer Weatherbeeta, Masta or Mark Todd and then for really expensive it is fal or horseware.

I find you can get away with cheaper stable rugs but for turnouts it is worth paying a bit more otherwise you spend a fortune trying to patch the thing up.

I would never buy Kingshead/Olympia rugs. The woman who washes/repairs/reproofs mine says they are the worst rugs to wash as the stitching goes and the fill lumps together.

Weatherbeeta's are fantastic. You can get them cheapish on Ebay sometimes, I love my Oricans and Arions, only one I dont like is the cheapest Landa. Fal's are also excellent however are a bit more pricey. I forked out for a Rambo Duo this winter and TBH wish I hadnt.... for the price it was a rip off! The only thing I like about it is the fact I can wash the liner...
