Im desperate for some long leather riding boots, but I need a size 3/36 with a very short leg.

I checked Treadstep but the short leg in the Donatello boot is 17", my leg is 14.5" so i don't think they will drop that much. It seems everywhere i look they are just not short enough. I cannot afford to buy made to measure, but even the Broginni Galliopoli seem to be too long as well.

I need a size 3/36, calf width 13.5" height 14.5"

Ooh, watching this with interest. I'm a size 2.5 (but usually have to get 3 because 2.5 isn't stocked), need 14" height and 13" calf. People always say look at kids` boots but they are often too narrow in both foot and calf.

Ariat bromonts seem to be quite good for sizes that aren't usually covered by other brands - a friend has some short ones with a wide calf and another friend has kids ones, and she probably has about a 13 inch calf. It would be great to fit into the kids ones as they are exactly the same but significantly cheaper!

Cowpony - I think they would be aroudn 3' too long for me as well :(

The problem with kids boots is they are generally too tight around the calf for me :(

I'm off to the Berkshire show next month, so hopefully I'll be able to try a few, but for the moment I'm stuck with jodhpur boots and kids x-large calf, x-small height gaiters! :-(

Let me know how you get on! im off to HOYS so might have to wait and have a look around there. I have gaitors and short boots and an old pair of Requisite long leather boots, which keep my leg more stable, unfortunately they don't make these boots anymore :( such a shame they only cost me £80.

Equitector do made to measure ones that probably aren't much more than the Tredstep - I got measured at Windsor show and they'll keep my details on file until I can afford them. I think they said they'd be about £250 so not cheap but I figure I'll actually end up spending less in the long run. At the moment, I get through a pair a year (so only buy cheap Rhinegold ones) as I have small ankles but wide calves so any that fit my calves are too baggy round my ankles and end up slumping there which casues the zips to break.

They were very friendly and didn't make me feel like a heiffer for my wide calves (which has happened elsewhere!)

Hmm, thanks for that but your interpretation of "short" is very different from mine! They'd be 2" too tall for me! :-)

Would they drop 2" or is the drop not usually that much? Some of the Mountain Horse kids boots are the right height for you but the calf size is too small. Hmm.

Depends on your budget. I am 5 foot, slim calves but bunions so very difficult to fit, none of the ones mentioned would do me. I have sergio grasso boots, not cheap but fit beautifully with lots of legnth and width options.

Sorry MDIAI, you're being so helpful but I'm afraid neither of these would work for me. The kids' Ariats are too tall and too narrow in my foot size, and the Shires short ones rather bizarely start at size 4!

I think the Ariats would be o.k. for me in the height but i think the calf is too narrow and the shires again i think are too tall.

I am wondering if heel lifters and a pair of insoles might help? and a pair of extra thick socks, failing that maybe me & Cowpony should go into business together making boots for shorties? lol

Brogini do a children's boot in a range called Antonia, and they are slim fitting and short in the leg. In fact I have a pair of size 36s to sell..... they are 12.5" around the calf from recollection, but I would need to look up the height. I would like £70 for them plus P&P (they have elasticated panels in the calf so they have evidently stretched looking at the details on their website, &they have dropped as well ...... am trying to work out how to upload a picture of my daughter wearing them - she is 5'1" so not massively tall, and they are too short for her).

Failed, for some reason I can't upload attachments....... can anyone tell me how?

I am only just over 5'1, size 3 feet and quite slim calves and had similar problems. I came across Tuffa Country Riding Boots - perfect length and are so comfy although quite snug around the ankle. They are not the cheapest boots so may be over budget but might be something for you to look at. On the website they do give measurements of the boots (length etc)....

Oop, sorry Cowpony - I was going off the measurements in the OP, not your post!

You may joke Joyous70, but I have more than once wondered how hard it would be to learn to be a cobbler! I'm sick of shoes that slip off my feet even with insoles; not having the same choice as people with "normal" sized feet; and the dreaded tall boot problem. If I ever do anything about it I'll let you know!

OK, quick update. Joyous70, your suggestion prompted me to look into shoe-making courses. There are actually quite a few around but they are expensive. My OH has encouraged me to do it however, so I am definitely going to take that first step! It will be a long time before I'll be competent and even longer before I'm even close to making riding boots, but it's a start! Thank you for giving me the kick up the bum I needed. :-)

Cowpony - i will be the first in line for some boots should you start making them lol xx

Update - i tried on at the weekend at pair of Airat Bromonts in size 3.5, lovely fit in the foot, the regular was too narrow round my calf, however i tried on a size 4 full leg, the full leg fitted but were too long, but the girl in the shop said the size 3.5 was nearly 1" shorter in the leg, and would also drop. I did find as well that because the leather is so soft, even being too tall for me they didn't dig into the back of my leg, so theyre on my Chrismas list for now!

Re the Tuffa boots, i love these they would be great for everday riding, but not for competing, i don't think i can justify two paris of expenseive ones unfortunately.
