Recommend me a body protector...

If you can't find anything to say it is safety checked (I had a quick look and couldn't see anything) I'd steer clear.

The registered address of the company in the strange website is a terraced house in Wandsworth (the joys of google maps), so I'm also with the steer clear.

I just bought an airowear - at least it's shaped for women. Personally I'd rather chew off my own left arm than wear one, but sometimes you have to be sensible I guess.

Totally depends what you want it for? Everyday riding? Of SJ/ XC where more protection needed?
I use a racesafe RS2010 and looks smart so suitable for use in the show ring - eg working hunter tracks as well as providing great protection. Also if damaged you dont need to replace the whold thing just the damaged sections!

Thanks everyone, yes starting to think it might not be wise to buy from them.

I have never worn a BP before, always found them so uncomfortable. The BP's I have tried for my budget around £50 are not comfortable at all. I mainly need it for everyday riding, hopefully I'll be getting round a few SJ courses soon, but my main reason is I have a horse with some spinal issues who has turned into a bucking bronco on a few occasions so I want something to give me a little extra protection should he do it again.

Thinking as usual it's probably worth spending a little more than I had hoped to get something suitable. I like the look of the racesafe BP's, but they are super expensive. Anyone know of something in between that's comfortable and a bit cheaper?

The airowear is about £125 - I found it more comfortable than the racesafe, and I'm assured that it will mold to my body when I get warm. will let you know when I've been out for a hack in the horrible thing today (you can tell I'm oh so keen on the things - but I'm 45 and a lively 4 year old so I really gotta wear it).

I have to say, i have been hankering after a racesafe for a while and tried one on at Burghley yesterday, and was very dissapointed, i also tried on the new airowear that moulds to your shape and was very impressed x

I've just taken the plunge with an Airowear too. Wolfie is about to go to big school so thought I could do with one (for the first time in my life...). Out of all the ones I've tried that was the most comfy.

I'd recommend going into a shop and getting one fitted too - I had to make a special order for a longer one but being a body protector novice I wouldn't have known that had I just tried them on myself.

I have seen this one on ebay which looks ideal, however it doesn't actually say that it is approved to any safety standards. Is it dodgy company? Anyone know? Has anyone bought one of these BP's?

Thanks

Don't buy one of these. I looked into these when i bought a new bp and i asked them what standard it was and they never answered my question. I did some research and it looks like they are a cheap chinese copy of the racesafe and not very good at protecting you. I bought a racesafe and i will always buy these now as they are so comfy even though they are expensive. I wear mine everytime i ride, i have youngsters to ride, 3 and 5 year olds.

Considering how much I didn't want to wear it I actually had forgotten the airiwear after a few minutes. It definately softens.

Owh thanks everyone, only just got online after a boring day of DIY.
Think I'm going to pop out and try on an airowear this week, sounds good. I have always been reluctant to get a BP, think I wore one once when I was younger and felt like I couldn't move so never used one again. But as I've got older I seem to have become aware of my own mortality :)

Avoid the one in your link like the plague - no they don't conform to any current safety standards (despite one lot which appeared to have the purple label haphazardly stuck to them ) I have been in personal contact with Trading Standards and BETA regarding them, and am so cross to see them being advertised :( Needless to say you wouldn't be allowed to compete with any affiliated body with one of them, or at any decent riding school.

I'm a Racesafe fan, but anything has to be better than these unregulated, unsafe bps being sold  Whatever you get, make sure it fits!

I really wanted a racesafe but couldn't find stockist local to try on. Rang a few places and they all said they don't stock them as if you fell on something sharp it could bounce of the pads and go through the gaps in between each bit and pierce it. I tried a airowear and love it- rode twice now and its so comfy it moulds to your shape quickly.

I recently got bought the Airowear one that molds to your shape (Oh, the things I ask for on my 21st :p)

Extremely comfortable and I found it actually helped my position somewhat so that gives it bonus points. I'd definately highly recommend it :D

:confused:I posted on here last night that I'd only last night ordered the WolfWear one from Equestrian Clearance after much looking and before I'd seen this thread  But the posting has vanished, that often happens and its most odd

Thanks Rhino, I am very surprised they can sell them, can't be legal! Don't worry, I wont be buying one!

I think the Airowear sounds like a good option judging by what everyone has said, it's also a reasonable price, I can't find a local stockist, but their sizing guide is very comprehensive, so think I should be able to order one online and get the right size.
