All I want is to have a traditional paper OS map on my phone. I don't want to have to plan a route, plot where I've been etc etc. I've spent a fortune on apps that just don't have what I want or that i just can't figure out. Advice please

If you have the latest OS maps in paper form, they come with a code which you can use on the official OS map app to download and use.

OS maps are expensive and are copyrighted hence why they're never free to view/use.

When you buy a paper OS map it comes with a code to get it on your phone too.
The app has a nice little arrow to tell you where you are. Think google maps meets OS

It's great isn't it? I set it to record my walking routes so you get an idea of distance and elevation covered too.

If you've got an iPhone there's an app called 'OS Maps', made and maintained by the official OS maps people. It's free to view a certain amount a month, or you can pay £3.99 for one month unlimited access - if you use this month to download the offline version (so the map is saved to your phone) and then cancel your subscription you'll still have the downloaded map :). Much cheaper than buying the paper ones.
The app also overlays your location on the map in real time, which is useful if you're like me and get hopelessly lost far too often!

I really rate viewranger- lots of maps are free, I've bought a couple extra OS ones. Maybe £7.99 for new forest & forestry commission. Don't have to do anything fancy with it, but can plan routes etc. I mostly use it to check where I am, and follow good routes again...
