I have looked at the Kadance t/o by countrywide at £50 which i think is on offer next week, removeable neck cover 600d not sure on weight
Derby house Watergate combo 900d on offer at £39.99
or shires have on on offer i cant remember which but its reduced from £99.99 to half price- I've never had a Shires rug though.
Or can anyone recommend a decent pref 200g t/o with neck please to suite a fairly chunky but short backed horse that wont break the bank. Thanks

I bought a protuff combo medium weight last year.. less than £45, to fit a cob type and was very pleased with it..

I would rather buy a second hand good quality rug, the Fal and Horseware rugs just seem to fit better and do the job better, especially in the outdoor department.

Robinsons have a rug sale on at the moment. Wouldnt get a rug that was under 1200dish though as they just wont be waterproof.

I've had a couple of good cheap rugs from Fast Tack Direct, join as a VIP member (doesn't cost anything) and the postage is free. They aren't fab and won't last the winter I doubt but they'll do as spares and fit my short fat heavy cob very nicely.

I do tend to agree on this, I go on E-mail mosty and look for a good priced high density one. I got a 1800D (or so it said) Icon rug off Ebay 3 years ago full neck 280g for £30 including delivery (cheap and cheerfull) and it still going strong and very waterproof so must have been around that density.

We live in the muddy pennines where it pours down 90% of the time, and the rugs get a battering.

I wouldn't pay a lot for a rug. I don't think they're any better generally, and you're paying for the name half the time (opinion I formed when we had liveries that had to hav top of the range rugs - they were worse half the time.., and attracted tack thieves!)

Our three had new shires medium turnouts last year (with necks) that I found on e bay. Got them for £35 each as was buying three. Heavy turnouts were Derby horse, and have done two winters and still going strong ready for another winter - think they were about £60 each.

All of ours are medium build - two ISHs and a fine gypsy cob type pony (may have some arab/tb in it too as not over stocky/feathery) All take medium wide saddles, and have good chests and shoulders on them - if that helps with how the rugs fit..
