Hello all 😊 I've been away from the forum for a long time but I am looking for some advice re my mares feet. She came back off of loan around 10 weeks ago and got colic 1 day later and a few days later that laminitis (a scary time) and her feet were badly cracking...unusual for her as she's always had very good feet despite being prone to lami. Now she has completely recovered and is looking good. Her feet are better, in fact growing more than ever and she is holding shoes on fine. She has micronised linseed and formula 4 feet in her feed but the formula 4 feet works out to be very expensive. Can anyone recommend anything slightly cheaper that has been successful?

Many thanks 😃

I have three natives to feed, one IR (lami prone), one with poor feet, one retired and I moved on my F4F to equimins advance complete.

Another for Equimins Advanced Complete here! I've seen better results with it and it's cheaper than Progressive Earth products :)

Forage Plus Balancers. To be honest any good balancer is not going to be cheap - if they are cheap they probably have very low ratios of minerals needed and will be full of fillers. I can't imagine any balancer with proper ratios of minerals is going to be cheaper than FFF which I don't think has sufficient levels of minerals in the correct ratio to really help. But ....... thats just my opinion!

Mine have always done well on just Biotin. It also makes some of their manes grow like nothing on earth! That's everything from Shetlands to Thoroughbreds.

My horses feet has never been better on forageplus balancers - farrier suggested we swap after years of using farriers formula and haven't regretted it at all. Not sure it will be cheaper though

I use Equimins Hoof Mender 75 powder on my TB who is also barefoot. It's great stuff and the powder is cheaper than the pellets so good value for money too.

I just looked this up.
Equimins Advance Complete Powder £15.68 1.2kg lasts a pony 30 days at 40g per day.
Pro Balance + £15.49 1.8kg lasts a pony 36 days at 50g per day.

I use Pro Balance + and found it to make all the difference to my pony and to a TB I was looking after.
I tried F4F and found it made a slight improvement to my pony but not much. I then went onto this and went from a pony that had thin soles and grew barely any hoof to one that now grows a decent amount and stomps over all sorts of terrain.
