Hiya, could anyone recommend me a heavyweight rug with detachable hood - the cut of amigo rugs fit my horses.

I have tried Rambo Rugs, but the front of these rugs (the neck/chest area) are cut too large.

Any opinions would be much appreciated x

would run with the amigos then i used to have all amigo rugs but my boy is destroyer and just mauled them so had to buy more substantial ones just bought a MT but its combo... fits my narrow tb beautifully and feels good quality...

Agree that the Amigo's are great, and I do have a heavy. However I find them not quite heavy enough for really bitter weather - will have a look at the bucas and MT, thank you x

Another recommendation for Mark Todd rugs - the detachable necks leave no gaps and are VERY easy to detach unlike some of the zip ones. I have an old style MT (the navy blue ones) but hopefully the new ones are just as good.

I also have FAL but find the zip a bit of a fiddle however I do like them.

I have a new Mark Todd and I really rate it. It's on it's third winter now, hasn't been reproofed or anything and has been worn 24/7 for months at a time. It is still as waterproof as when it was new and it's never rubbed or even moved around. I have a 350g but they released a 450g last year which I have a dangerous hankering for now!

Mark Todd rugs are quite generous around the neck.

How about a Rhino Wug (half neck style)? I have had alot of success with them on my narrow shouldered youngsters. Amigo and Bucas are also good. :)

Premier equine rugs are hard to beat. They do a winter buster and a storm buster, one with detachable and one not. really give good cover, all you can see of my horse is her head and lower legs. Never rubbed either and still looks like new after 3 years of mad scottish weather and mud loving mare. she is a tb if that helps.

I too love amigo's

for a heavyweight this year however she has a JHL which I have been informed is a cheaper version of the Mark Todds just like Amigo is of Weatherbeta. Tried it on today and it fits well, a little more snug across the chest but not too worried as it's nylon lined. Seems really tough and as I got it second hand for £10 I definately can't complain! Only heard good things about JHL. Her cooler is JHL and been abused and washed and washed and washed and still looks and acts brand new.

Mark Todd- the blue plaid one- they are brilliant and tbh i didnt find mine huge neck wise, my TB wore his normal size and it was a very nice fit.

forgot to say fal too, they're not over big around the chest (older style were, but the chieftains aren't that big around the neck/shoulder area) neck is detachable too (although they have brought in this year a combo/non detachable version)

Premier equine. I can't rate them enough, normally have sale on their heavies. Deeply cut and very snug. They also last and maintain very well :)
