As title.

I know different things work for different horses but one that actually makes some kind of difference to stiffness/clickiness?

Thanks

Haddy was on a bute a day and Maxaflex. It made a huge difference to him. He went from struggling to lift his hinds at all to going back into gentle hacking. He came completely sound.

naf 5* superflex, my boy is an exracer and at just 12 he started clicking and just generally being a bit stiff. as did race for 5 years. took a month or so but did seem to ease the stiffness a lot, i could turn him out in the morning and he looked normal instead of crippeld. tried to stop using it (after nearly 3 years on) as he is living out or in a large barn, so keeping mobile, basically didnt get round to buying more as i order online in bulk, but 2 months later i noticed clicking again, and stiff behind, may have been a co-incidence but actually think it works!

but every horse is different and it isnt cheap, but seems worth it for him
i now someone who uses american glucosamine

My old boy does really well on Devil's Claw root. I've tried various supplements but the DC seems to be the most effective. Good value too.

Second Devils Claw. I would try this before bute.
Tried some on myself this week and I'm much better, tastes awful though!

I used Equine Answers Premierflex plus for my old pony. It has devils claw included.

It worked better than all the other usual joint supplements.

I now give my showjumper Premierflex ha just to give him a chance to keep healthy joints. This one doesn't include devils claw and my pony doesn't need it's pain relieving ability.

Give them a call as they're really helpful.

Mine have been on a range from this to Boswellia and white willow and NAF Superflex.
Would you mind trying them out for me and let me know which is the best ?!!
( need to learn how to do those faces)

Cider vinegar, glucosamine and Buteless. My mum also uses cider vinegar for her arthritis and the visible knobbly bits on her finger joints completely disappeared as did the pain. She really notices if she forgets to take it. I have my elderly horse and my dog on it, glucosamine and the Buteless and both are doing really well after quite obvious lameness there is no longer any sign of lameness or stiffness.

If you can afford it, Vetroflex or Vetrofen. When Reg was a bit creaky last year (now had joint injections for it) this made a world of difference in how willing he was to move and to work. It worked as well as bute did, only is comp. legal.

I've had mine on devils claw and danilon for a while, but have experimented with a few joint supplements - I put her on top spec senior balancer which has joint supplement in it and it was like looking at a new horse - freed her up no end and she hasn't had devils claw since.

I had to move her on to topspec antilam as she was doing far too well on the senior, and initially she seemed to hunch up again - I started her on topspec 10:10 for joints and it is like she is back on the senior balancer again - she looks great and has been showing off her new found paces on the lunge and in the field! Another good one is vetvits flexi something, cheaper too.

Have tried Horsefirst my joints - no difference, Cortaflex - no difference, and a few others - i'm sure different ones work for different horses but i'm happy with the 10:10 for now.

Thank you for all the replies everyone.

Will look into the Topspec, Vetroflex and cider vinegar.

Funnily enough, I found a bottle of Devil's Claw that I won in a horsey raffle last night () and so have started him on that this morning. Not sure I really want to keep him on that though but will see if it makes any difference.

Thanks guys x

Just bought some Science Supplements FlexAbility for my oldie on the back of the clinical trials they undertook. Should see a difference in 2 weeks if its going to work, so I'll post again in a couple of weeks time.....

Synequin. Costs a fortune, but it worked very well for my arthritic cob.

Eventually we supplemented with No Bute and he was always on flaxseed oil, but when I upgraded him from Newmarket Joint Supp to Synequin you could see the difference in soundness and flexibility.

Osmonds Bute-X (it's different to the Global Herbs one) Been using it with my arthritic horse for years, really notice the difference if he's not on it for any reason, can't recommend it highly enough. A £30 tub seems to last 2-3 months so fairly cost effective too.
Friend saw a good improvement using rosehip on her mare, just got them from the human health food type shops.
