That will carry the following!

My horse is 16.2, fairly chunky- maybe I'd x tb type. I'd like to take him out locally. He's semi retired but would be nice to travel to a bit of off road hacking now and then.

Daughters loan is 15hh average build and her pony is a 14.3 Connie/ welsh type.

I will mostly be taking one of hers to shows or lessons BUT... It would be lovely to be able to take a combo of two now and then.

I have a trailer (ifor 505) and a tow car but am very dubious about my chances of passing a trailer test etc. I also hate the thought of towing- it terrifies me! And my horse won't load onto a trailer.

I passed my test at 19 (now 35) so I believe I can drive a 3.5t at the most on my current license- is this correct?

A lot I've looked at online only carry ponies and I don't want to risk being over weight.

Is there a solution? Any ideas of lorries or if anyone knows anything else I can legally drive that would be much appreciated!
Budget of 8-10k

Assuming you passed your test after 1997 (sorry can't do the maths!!) you can drive a 3.5t.

However I doubt very much you will find one that can take a 16.2hh middle weight plus another - your chap on his own would be ok though.

For example I have a renault master conversion with a payload of 1200 kgs, which is one of the better payloads. With this I can 'just' travel our 2 x 14.2hhs plus tack/water etc. The ponies combined weight is 950 kgs so can see why I have to be very careful, especially if having a passenger on board too.

Maybe look into a lorry test if you can't face the trailer test? I know how you feel as would not like to do mine either, but the consequences of this is that I can never have large horses....!

Perhaps best to find out what they actually weigh. If you are just going out for pleasure rides do you really need to carry loads of stuff and water ? the van conversions as sidney says have a fair weight capacity but until you now what yours weigh you wont be sure if you are safe with one of those. We are having a cooker and hob etc put into ours which will only carry ponies so we will be fine but it is wrth checking
