to upgrade to please. My dog is currently with Petlog's basic ID service and I have just re-registered her details. Is it possible to move to a different company for her lifetime or is Petlog the best?

Petlog is pretty much the only registry for the UK.

Why would you want to change?

Just got an email that Petlog have a reduced rate this month to upgrade or to change any details for free, so think i better upgrade too (forgot at time).

I don't but they have just sent me a voucher thing and I was immediately suspicious as I don't know enough about who is the market leader and whether they are just an arm of another company or rivals (like Farm Key and Freezemark). There are always pro's and con's to things and where better to find out about dog chipping than in AAD? :)

All mine are with petlog (even the ferrets!), I'm not sure there are any other registries, maybe a couple of small ones but would go with petlog regardless.

There are actually several "brands" of microchip....PetID, Petlog, Bayer's backhome and get this....NONE of them share info! So if someone finds your pet, unless he/she has an identifying tag with the contact details on it for your chip, you are directed from one company to another until you find the one you need! All very annoying!

Actually the Pet-id chips I implant go onto Petlog as do tracer and some others. Avid chips didn't used to be put on petlog.
Recently a dog I chipped in 2006 was found straying and the chip had not been logged in but I was traced via the chip and was able to give past details. Of course they had moved but we were able to track them down. Dog had broken out and was picked up two streets away from home.
