Charlie needs a shorter girth. He currently has Archie's old one which is fairly near the top on both sides so I think it'll be too long if he loses a bit of weight over winter. It's a Wintec elasticated girth which is fine so I could just get another one of those but I think girth technology has probably moved on a bit since I bought it so if there is something (not too expensive) that would make him more comfy that would be great.

Depends on your needs but the Professional's Choice are lovely. My number one now. Stubben Trevira are great string girths but only when dressage length!

for long girths I've rated Pro Choice in the past, too. They seem comfortable and good for saddle stability without needing to be too tight.
for a short girth I don't like that you can feel the buckles through the neoprene on them, so prolite fairfax shape ones are my go-to for horses that suit the shape now.

Wonky mare loves her Wintec chafeless elasticated long girth. I already had one when I bought her. It’s a bit plastic looking so I thought I’d upgrade it.

I bought her a Fairfax and she hated it - she bounced up and down snapping her teeth in disgust ! I also tried her in a Professional Choice Ventech and a Harry Dabbs, but I should have saved my money as she was not impressed with them, either. So the Wintec it is.

That's handy to know, C is perfectly happy in the Wintec and if it wasn't too long, I wouldn't be thinking of changing it so maybe another one of those is the answer - especially as it's half the price of the Pro Choice one!

I have just ordered the Old Mill Saddlery version of the Pro Choice VenTech, it is half the price and does look quite similar. One thing to watch for though is that they measure end to end rather than the more correct saddler's way of buckle tongue end to buckle tongue end. Makes me think they don't actually make them and they are cheap factory take offs. Also, I recollect Oz saying that the ends of some girths are not as well stitched, and I think this one could be one of the ones he was talking about.

However, as Rigsby is only on walk work, I thought a nice comfy girth was just the ticket, and if he starts going quicker I will start to be concerned about stitching.

I just ordered one from Old Mill via eBay, and asked them to send whatever equivalent would give me a 40" usable girth length. We will see when it arrives!

I'll be honest, I held out for years on the PC, oh they can't be that good, this girth is fine, etc. Then I had a tricky to fit youngster and caved in. They really are worth the money. Solved the fit issue in an instant and the quality is excellent. And very practical with the removable lining.

Sorry to jump on your thread OP but I am looking at a new girth and seen lots of good things about the professional choice ones! For those that have them, which version have you got (GP); the equalizer, SMX english girth or SMX combo (with fleece)?

The Ventec.
The cheap knock offs are okay but they copy the old pro choice, not the ventechs
Thank you. On the website i'm on all those options seem to be called ventec somewhere in the name! Just wasn't sure if one was more suited to particular girth grooves, body shapes etc.

Just wanted to say thanks to those who recommended the Ventech! I got a brand new one without tags off eBay for £50 and I used it for the first time this morning!! It’s fab, saddle felt so much more secure and far easier to do up!

I just saw this pop up on my watched threads. Charlie hasn't lost any weight over the winter so I haven't bought him a new girth. The only new thing I've bought him in 7 months is a bit. The poor boy has all Archie's hand-me-downs. As a second child I know exactly how he feels.
