Can anyone recommend a pony nut with suitable vits/mins that i can feed from the ground to my 2 shetlands. Theoreticly i want to just run a scoop of nuts onto the grass for them each day , so take out the need for fighting over buckets etc, ( the mare is a bully and will kick out if you take buckets within 20m of her ) I know it's only for shetlands but i do feel they could do with some vits/mins throughout the winter ( tried lite-lick tub which is ok but misery guts just hogs it and wont let the wee boy have a sniff!:D)

I feed mine argo forage nuts, all he has is that and hes in full work.
I wouldn't even worry about feeding shetlands at all, as long as they're on good grass they'll get all the nutrients they need from that, and even if its bad grass shetlands can live off anything! If your worried about weight maybe feed a bit of hay?

Shetlands could thrive in a concrete car park!! but if you want to give them a bit of a treat try Badminton high fibre nuggets and chuck them far and wide in the field, they'll love foraging for them and they are supplemented with vits and mins!

They are on quite a sizable patch but it's very weedy / buttercups etc and although i could give them haylage ( has to be haylage as tilly is a bit copd with hay ) it means in order to get through the bale quick enough , i'd have to feed quite alot , hence my pony nut theory .... the big horses are on a huge amount of turnout , with better grass so i would'nt want to start feeding them haylage yet , they aren't looking for it at the moment as it's so mild and thier grass is good..

That's just the sort of thing i was thinking , neither pony is fat ( although the mini has grown a mamouth coat , hope he's not the harbinger of doom re a cold winter:D) and tilly is in her 16th year so not a spring chicken

How about Equibites, they are a mult vitamin and mineral biscuit!

Ah Ha...i knew some bright spark would come up with some good advice , this could be just the answer
Thanks to TGM for the link , i do use D&H products ( well for the dogs actually ) but have not come across these so i'll have a good look...
And just to reaure those who think i can't weight manage two shets , i do realise they can live on fresh air , but i don't see the harm in adding vits/mins if there forage diet is not so good...both mine are rescues and are monitored yearly by the respective charity field officers , both of which would bite my hand off if i offered to take some more!:D:rolleyes:
