Hi guys

Can anyone recommend me a very good, qualified saddle fitter who would be willing to come out & check the fit of my current saddle please?

Thanks

Hi ya, have you tried Kickon Equestrian? They are based on the Nottingham/Derbyshire border, Alfreton. It is a family run buisness, the saddler is really nice, I have had a 2nd hand saddle from them & some people on my yard have also used them, always a great service, they also do checking/reflocking. It might be worth asking if they will travel your way

Sorry, wouldnt touch Kick On based on the saddles they have in... I know thats a broad assumption, but if retailers are willing to put bad quality saddles on the horses backs, I would worry about how concerned they are with your horses saddle fit...

I am South Notts, but I use Bridlepath International - they come out to this area once every 2 weeks ish, from Bury St Edmonds. Very very good service.

Not all foreign leather saddles are poor, I noticed that they are quite picky with the foreign ones they had, Teresa was very knowledeable and didnt try to push me into something I couldnt afford. My horse now moves freely in his new saddle and is very happy. So Id recommend kickon, not everyone has the budget for english leather saddles but they do stock them, they also stock synthetic.

I use Bridlepath aswell, and they are excellent! Just not sure they will go that far north....

Summerleft, I am not saying foreign saddles are "bad" quality, however they can be more difficult to fit well due to having different tree and panel design to english saddles. If they are selling a large range of non adjustable saddles, such as foreign saddles then I would be concerned about their ability to find a saddle and help tailor it to a horse.

Bridlepath for example cater for a large range of budgets, but through stocking second hand english saddles with good quality trees with adjustable flocking to be able to tailor them to the horse. They wont stock saddles of unknown tree quality, which is what you are getting with alot (and I admit I am being broad here!) of foreign cheaper saddles.

Byron also stocks good quality saddles with some cheaper demo and second hand saddles which he will fit for you

As a horse owner and rider of 22 years I felt she was knowledable about the shapes of every saddle, far more so than some other saddlers I have known, if they do not have a saddle that fits they do not try and sell it to you, I dont think unless you have first hand experience you should bad mouth a company.

She was the first saddler who was able to get a good fit for my funny shaped horse, and he hasnt moved as well under saddle until we had kickon out

I'm not bad mouthing anyone. I am just stating a personal opinion based on personal knowledge on saddle types and my views on why I personally wouldnt go to them

Summerleft, I have obviously rubbed you up the wrong way, do you work for kick on? I have only aired my opinions based on my experience.

I have never said "I have used them and they are crap" etc, I have just stated MY personal opinion.

They may well be excellent, I would just be cautious, rightly or wrongly based on their stock. This opinion has come from my knowledge of saddles and fitters etc.

Sally Cartwright based at Beaverhall Equestrian near Ashbourne. She will go out to people too.

Can't recommend her enough- really thorough and professional and not at all pushy like some saddlers I've used in the past.
