Hi everyone - can anyone recommend a really comfy saddle that offers good security i.e knee / thigh rolls , i'm thinking along the lines of stock saddles or maybe even western where they are designed for being sat in for longer periods. I'd like to do more canter work out in open fields and although i have a nice saddle ( Dever No 3 ) i would like to feel more secure..especially when phesants are flying everywhere and jets are taking off over head!!:D

Do you do any other disciplines?
I tried eight different saddles on my hard to fit TB with big shoulders in our early years together. GP's tended to move side to side b/c his shoulders moved the more forward flaps. I like schooling and dressage so I ended up with a Wintec Isabelle. The gel seat was heaven for long hacks and the Equisuede materiel gives you loads of grip, especially with long stirrups so your legs wrap around the horse. I got so used to the secure feel, I felt unsafe in my leather GP which I used for hunter trials, so I went to the schooling days in my dressage saddle also:D

Ive got an Andy Sankey jumping saddle, bespoke to my horse, and its lovely and comfy to ride in, she works very well in it, i really feel her lifting and swinging through her back when shes ridden these days, lovely :D

I have two bates stock saddles (leather version of the wintecs). You can only get dislodged by rearing, so bucking and spooks are easy! Plus they are very comfortable unless you are doing a lot of extending periods of galloping, as my core is a bit weak!

If you don't jump, then you cannot beat a stock saddle!

Thanks guys , think i'm going to look into a wintec pro stock ( groans all round ) i admit i do like a leather saddle but i really am a happy hacker , i don't show or jump and some days when i can't be assed to run the boy in to tack up , i can carry the saddle/bridle etc out to the field and just go from there , the Dever is quite heavy and i'm always knackered if i have to carry it miles!:D
