Following on for an incident I had out hacking this afternoon, I think I should be investing in a head cam

Please can you recommend me one that won't break the bank as I will not be hacking this particular horse until I have one now

What sort of price are you looking at?

I can highly recommend the Drift cameras.
There is a used one here on ebay - this model is a super little piece of kit and will be perfect for your needs. This listing doesnt include the surface mounts (eg onto helmet) but you can pick those up separately. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Drift-HD-...376441?hash=item2ee7cb9cb9:g:RhUAAOSwDNdV436B

I don't know how much they go for. But I'm sort of looking for something that is fairly good quality as I had an incident where I had to involve the police this afternoon, so want to have some evidence if this person does it again. I've never thought about needed one before so don't even know what brands are out there etc

I'll check this one out and it's attachments

Thank you

I recorded an incident that required me to send the footage to the police, i was using the same model as in the link, and the peoples faces, car reg etc were all very clear.

If you want to purchase a new one, with good battery life, good quality footage and nice an small for on a helmet then i can highly recommend the little Drift Stealth - awesome little camera. They come in at around £150 - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Drift-ste...818597?hash=item419db5e825:g:HYoAAOSw37tWEqIU
Plus you can buy remote control for these that you wear on your arm so you can choose when and what you record.

Awww awesome thank you, I'll have a chat with my parents and see if they will get me one as an early birthday present as the incident was with someone who hates my dad and he's convinced it was done on purpose, so they have asked me not to ride out again until the police have spoken to him. But I'm still concerned he will do it again, so if I can film it I can prove it

The drift is great - but we have also had success with the Muvi which is £30 from Amazon! With an additional SD card it gives 8 hours of recording. It isn't HD or anything but for recording a round, a hack or out hunting it is just fine. We opted for that because I wanted something that wouldn't result in an insurance claim if my daughter fell off and it broke! (We were also buying about the time that the press was claiming Michale Shumacker's injuries were due to his head cam, BE had just banned them on safety grounds etc so we were looking for a body worn camera)

The trick with any head / body cam is that the positioning must be right. But footage from her Muvi camera has been successfully used by the police and it didn't break the bank.

The "Smile you are on camera" Hi Viz tabards are also useful. Motorists in particular are getting used to cyclists with cameras and tend to behave better when they think they'll be filmed.

I'm after one (or two) of these too - the drivers around here have gone MANIC in the past 5 years! Important question though - are the easy to attach and remove from the hat? (I don't want to have to buy 5!) And are the batteries rechargeable?

Oh wicked, thank you!! I might try one of these then and if I find that I need it, I will maybe invest in a more expensive one!!

Couldn't sleep last night because I was so angry about the way this person was driving!!!

The drift cameras come with a sticky helmet mount that you just pop on in the right place then the camera just simply slides in and clicks in to place. Or, as i have done previously, you can attach the goggle mount to a helmet band and just fit it around your hat then proceed to slide the camera in as above.

The battery is fully rechargeable, you just plug the camera into your laptop, pc or usb mains charger with the cable provided and leave it to charge. I have found the battery on mine can last up to 3 hours.

They come in on a par i would say with the gopro but i didnt like the way the gopro has to mount on the front of your helmet and much preferred the fact the Drift mounts on the side, but i guess its personal preference.
They can also be mounted on the shoulder if you buy the shoulder mount harness, something i quite fancy but havent got around to buying yet.

If you want to see the quality of the footage take a look at my youtube videos, all the headcam ones are shot with Drift cameras. https://www.youtube.com/user/seal5low/videos

I got mine from cam equestrian. make sure of the playing time some of the cheap ones dont record for long.

Fab stuff - particularly liked the hound exercise one (though your chap looked like he'd prefer to be Gield Master's horse, lol!)

LOL, you noticed that then!! It was our first time ever out with hounds so it was all new to both of us and Kasper was VERY keen! Everyone was very patient and polite with us :D

I've been having a look around and I think I'm going to trail this Muvi cam, as its pretty cheap, so will let everyone know how we got on!

I have a appointment with a police lady later today, so hopefully she will be able to go and speak with the driver!

I also spoke to my YM yesterday who came off her daughter 17'2, 4yr old yesterday, due to someone driving at her!! unfortunately she came off on the road so wasn't as lucky as me and didn't get any details of the driver! but luckily she didn't do herself any major injury! this has confirmed to me that I really do need to have some sort of protection and both of these incidents were unconnected, in different towns but both exteremly dangerous drivers!!

Makes me really want to get involved in road safety in some way
