Sorry folks, yet another "saddle" thread................

Have two cobs: (1) traditional cob gelding (wide backed, low withers), 15.1hh; and (2) Welsh D mare, 14.3hh.

Have tried a Wintec for horse (1) and won't go that way again as they just don't fit him. Wondered if a Thorowgood would.

For the mare, she's quite a narrow Welsh D, not tubby at all.

Also...... does anybody know a company which will come out and fit? We are in Devon.

Thanks.

Had a thorowgood T4 gp for my cob (he has withers so didnt need the cob version), wasn't brilliant though because of his big shoulders and relatively short back, but have now exchanged it for the dressage T4 which seems a lot better.
The cob T4 is not as forward cut as the regular one, so that might be an option for your traddie, you'll just have to try it and see, dont know any saddle fitters in your part of the world though, sorry..

Ditto the Thorowgood Cob recommendations. I have both the T6 GP & T6 dressage version & love them. I have a slight thorowgood saddle addiction, but currently attempting to downsize miserably! :D
Use mine on: NFxcob (no wither, big shoulder, short backed) Welsh Dxtb (some wither, big shoulder, would prob fit in the standard version but had the cob 1 already) & an American Paint X (average wither but wide backed)

I have a saddle company cob saddle (4 girth straps, although we don't use the cob ones so I guess a normal sc saddle would do!)
It's really adjustable so great if you have a youngster like we do. And half synthetic half leather so looks smarter than thorogood/winter imo

Another vote for Thorowgood. I have had the T8 cob, then my mare changed shape and I now have the T8 low profile. The ones with the leather seat look great and they wear well too. Just don't lose the buckle guards - they are very hard to replace as they are single strap ones, rather than all the tabs going through one guard, if you know what I mean.

another vote for the Thorowgood cob I have the T* and love it also have the t4 for generally hacking about
Hooperse equestrian fit them and are very good

Er, sorry, being numpty, but is there an essential difference between the "T" and the "T4"???? Is one more forward cut than the other, is that it?

Don't think the fitter you mention comes out this way :( - think I'm gonna have to re-mortgage and ring Nutwell!!!

I had the T4 for my cob and just didn't get along with it at all. 3 different saddle fitters looked at it and said it fitted perfectly, but it gave me bad back ache after long rides and pony just wasn't muscling up as much as I would have liked.

Traded it in for a barefoot and we both love it :) he has muscled up loads since changing too

Jodi used to come to me near Cullompton. I have a Kent and masters saddle (leather thorowgood) you can try as I'm not using it at the moment.

Thanks for the offer: have tried a Kent and Masters (didn't realise it was a Thorowgood) - and although the "saddle fitter" said it fitted; dobbin wasn't happy, to the extent that he tried to bronc with it on............ exit yet another saddle fitter :)

Def try the flexEE - rides much more like a treed than the cheapy treeless saddles but flexes to fit the horses shape and will adjust as they muscle up/lose weight etc
