Hi all, I've tried so many tack soaps, conditioners, cleaners, balsams etc over the years and not really seen any difference between them all. Can anyone recommend me one? My tack doesn't really get that dirty so it's more something to keep things like noseband straps/flashes/spur straps well conditioned as they're the bits that seem to get the most wear.

Thanks , EMily xx

I like the Carr & Day & Martin ones. The one I have is in a spray so it's easy to apply and leaves a really nice shine.

Belvoir leather balsam - although anything that is beeswax rather than glycerine base will be good.

Passier. Expensive but when I was trialling my new saddle I had to feed it every time I used it and that was what I was given to do the job. Nowadays I just soak my bridle in warm water, and when it is dry wipe it over with that, it is brilliant.

ETA I tried the Horseman's One Step and thought it was great, but a few months on my leather began to get dry and brittle so I wouldn't use it again

I use Horsemans one step and have done for years - my tack rarely gets cleaned (terrible I know), and can get quite grotty from a very sweaty horse, but this stuff works wonders on it. I also use it on my boots etc as it does what it says on the tin ..... One step :)
I have used stubben stuff in the past and thought it was vile - in fact it is still in the garage waiting to be thrown out (I only used it twice, but very hard work).

I copied an old trick from a local eventer. Soak in bowl of vegetable oil overnight. Take out next morning and wipe off. My tack has been clean and shiny ever since.
Obviously can't do with a saddle though!

Another vote for Renapur- it's not cheap but it goes a long way. I also clean the kids school shoes with it- and other leather shoes. Protects and conditions much more than normal saddle soap (or shoe polish!).

For bridles Ko-Cho-Line. For saddles Abbey 1982 saddle food. I do endurance and use leather tack, it gets absolutely hammered. I've tried most products out there and these are by far the best. Everything else went in the bin.

Leather is essentially treated skin and you have to look after it like your hands. Get too wet, you have to let it dry gently, this time of year the wetness may come from sweat which will have salt in it so wipe off with an almost dry cloth and water before it dries. Get it too dry, from dust and very dry air and it will crack. I find Stubben cream the best, it tends to split when warm in the tube so when the leather is really dry I use the watery liquid on the leather, for normal moisturising I use the solids and decant it into a little pot so its a bit like face cream which I use little and often. I also use Belvoir glycerine spray for every day on a micro fibre cloth for a quick wipe over to tart up in summer as it takes off the surface grease but does not dry the leather out. I have bridles that are over thirty years old.

A quick wipe over every time it is used: I have used everything. The only way to have bridles in show condition every day is to clean and then wipe oil on top surfaces for a gleaming finish. There will be enough warm oil on your hands to do the underneath.
I use two Carr and Day sponges, one for the cleaner and one for the oil.
For Stubben tack I use their own conditioner occasionally.
For Zilco tack, daily swish in a bucket of warm soapy water, use nailbrush every so often to clean anything else, brasso wadding for lorinery.

I've always used Hydrophane or Flexelan on the underside and Glycerine all over when the oil has soaked in.

My show bridles though are clear boot polished on the outside and light oil on the inside.

Everyone asks how I keep my tack so lovely.
