I would like some leg wraps what wick moisture away from the legs basically for when i wash my horses legs off (occassionally) when they are very dirty after a day in the muddy paddock. Don't want him getting frost bite so he's looking quite filthy from the knee down at the moment! I can't afford the gorgeous Thermatex ones, can't see that Weatherbeeta do any, does anyone have any other recommendations?

Unfortunately cant think of anyone who makes anything else. I have the Thermatex ones which are about 6yrs old, they cost me £45 then, how much are they nowadays? Maybe look on EBay and see if you can pick any up cheaper than the shops.

Been on Ebay a lot recently looking and second hand tatty ones seem to go for about £45 and the new ones are nearer £70. Only just invested in new a new rug so can't really justify leg wraps too......!

Oooh - I got my old boy some polypad rappas from ride away - soooooo easy to put on with velcro fastenings and lovely towelling inside. Keep him lovely and dry and warm for his arthritus.

One word of warning. They only come in one size and mine is a 15.3hh TBxID and the pads are just big enough for his hind legs - so if you have a horse with chunky legs you might struggle to get them to fit. But otherwise they are awesome!

You can't really beat Thermatex (I use the Cordura covered ones - have had my first pair for over 5 years!) but Thermalux (Colin Cook/Aerborn) do some that are cheaper, however they don't come in a Cordura covered version so get covered in shavings - OK if you bed on straw though!
Alternatively, I saw that Horseware do some as part of the Newmarket range @ £44ish

http://www.horseware.com/foryou/newmarket/legwraps.asp

which is around £20 cheaper than Thermatex. Don't know whether they're any good though. Also I think Premier Equine do them though be careful as I think they sell them inpairs and not sets of 4?!

Just had a thought, look on Premier Equine's site, have a feeling that they do something along the lines of what your looking for.

I've got some polypad rappas but they don't fit very well as he is a cob. I can use them when he is supervised but hate to think what he would do if I left him wearing them overnight!!! Probably velcro his legs together and stand looking worried all night not daring to move..........May just have to get the sewing machine out and extend them if I can't find anything affordable. Now that could give everyone a laugh!!!

Thanks for the other comments, i will look into those and see if they can supply measurements to check they will fit my chunky boy!

I have the thermatex cordura ones and they are fab - my boy wears them when he is stabled overnight and it dries his legs and reduces filling (he has arthritis). The non-cordura ones are cheaper I think but as said above shavings stick to them which can be a bit annoying.

I also fal silver active ones and they are also very good (can't remember how much they were but came in pairs only so probably more expensive than the thermatex ones. They kill bacteria as well so very good if you have a horse prone to mud fever).

I also have a set of Mark todd ones which I haven't tried but they seem very much like the non-cordura thermatex ones. Finally I also have the thermalux aeroborn ones - again they look like the non-cordura thermatex ones.

Hmmm, think I have a bit of a boot/wrap problem ... Its just that you will never know when you will need a spare set (or 3)

I have a set from lansdown - really fab! They do three diff sizes, I have med in front and large behind on my 15.3 mw mare and they are perfect. Their website is fairly useless so I'd just give them a call http://www.lansdownhorserugs.co.uk/
I think mine were about £25 a pair from Blenheim.

Ive got the premier equine ones and they do a good job, cheap as chips too.

The only thing I would say though, is I bought the leg wraps without the shiny outer coating as I thought they'd be more breathable, but the bedding does stick to these which is a pain in the backside!

Thermatex leg wraps might be a bit pricey but they last for years and years and really do work. We've got mainly cordura covered ones. Have got a couple of sets of non cordura ones but prefer the others.

Aerborn (sp) do a version of the Thermatax wraps, have had a few pairs for years, very hard wearing and much cheaper. Also find Equistable chaps work well and have a very long life span. Have bought ours from ebay at good prices.
