Hi all

I have just bought my share horse (yay!) so am shopping around for insurance, but I though I would ask you guys if there was any company in particular you would recommend.

I don't want to spend a fortune and will only be hacking about and popping the odd jump.

thanks in advance!

Hello....

I personally like petplan. I don't really have any experience of any others but have had to claim twice recently for my horse and were very helpful. A bit pedantic but all insurers are like that (I work for a non horsey insurance company!!). Am sure others will no doubt have had bad experiences with them and everyone looks for different things but I like petplan anyway.

*tries to be impartial* ;)

NFU all the way.

they have never queried a single claim. (couple vets fees, trailer damage and loss of a horse)

My vote would be for SEIB. They are not the cheapest, but my experince af insurance is you get what you pay for. I've more or less had to put big claims in every year for my delicate boy and they've been fab each time. One time, the vet thought SEIB would probably treat the claim as two separate ones, so two excesses to pay, but they were as good as gold and took it as one claim / one excess only!
By the way check the small print v carefully. A lot of them have an excess of £95 or 20%of the claim (or something similar), which if it's a £1000, mean you'll be paying £200. SEIB is a standard excess of I think £135 , regardless of the size of claim.

You definitely get what you pay for - so NFU, KBIS, Petplan etc - and avoid the bargain basement ones like the plague!

Carriage House Insurance every time. The service is personal, professional and certainly competitive (not one of your bargain basement companies).
They are always there to help with advice etc.

I have just switched mine (yesterday!) from the dreaded E&L.......i didnt realise they were such a no go untill i came on here! I have moved to KBIS. I have to say, the woman on the phone was exceptionally helpfull and it was quick and easy! so customer service wise they are fab.....shame the same cant be said for e&l....well i was with horseinsurance.co.uk. I tried 5 times to ring them yesterday to cancel the policy.....no answer on any of their numbers. So i have got my new insurance in place and have cancelled the D/D to horseinsurance.co.uk!

AmTrust for me they have paid out on every single claim ive put in & pay out within the week the claim is submited.
They have paid out 5k in the last year on Gastrogard & a further 1k on diagnostic work been fab to deal with on the phone.
