Well I did it, I bit the bullet and have bought a 9mo filly as my 'pipeline'. She comes from a credible breeder who is highly recommended by friends etc and I havent had her vetted - now struggling to insure her without a 5* certificate???

Anyone recommend anyone? I am with Petplan for my other nag who i am really happy with but they want vets cert??

Thanks!

I went through the same wih my youngster who I bought at just 11 months. Personally I risked it until she was a year and insured then.

ETA surely you only need a 2 stage?

I went with horse-insurance.co.uk as they didn't require a level 5 vet check for my mare. It includes tack cover, third party, legal, dental etc etc everything really, even loss of use. I know some people on here have slated them a bit, and I havent had to claim - touch wood - but the dealings I have had with them, I am very happy with. I had a query on my billing, and they talked me through exactly what had been done (there was a 21 day delay on one months payment for some reason, so they lumped 2 months payemnts in one at the start of the next month) totally fine. Then, I changed yards, let them know, it was changed straight away and with e-mail confirmation and with no admin charge which you usually get from insurance companys. So far, am happy as anything with them. BUT havent claimed, so am yet to see that (hopefully no time soon though!).

Petplan wanted vet certificates for my two foals, 6months old at the time, now 8 months, and they were only £800 together. I've opted for 3rd party via BHDTA and a fund and emergency credit card until they are old enough to be more at risk ie in work.

But you couldn't possibly do a five stage vetting on a foal? what nonsense. Call Petplan back and ask to speak to someone higher up the food chain?

Petplan want a mortality cert. for any youngster under the age of 1.

Stoneways will insure without, that's who my foal is insured with.

My youngsters have been insured with NFU, dont need a vet cert if under £3000. My current youngster is insured with them, never had any issues with them, all other companies required a vet cert as he cost 2500.
