I bought a brand new working hunter saddle for my youngster, a nice Havana colour and my stirrup leathers are marking it :-@ rather cross about it. Im sure there must be some soft leathers out there that don't do this, and at a price I'm sure but I would rather my nice new saddle isn't marked. And also, what saddle soap do you all use? I'm just using naf soft soap at the moment but thinking maybe I should use a better quality soap.

If it's not a mono-flap, you could always hang your stirrups under the saddle flap. I know someone who did this when they borrowed someone else's saddle...

We did that when I first tried it, it's not particularly comfortable, found it restricts my leg movement. I've bought a fleece saddle cover to put over it and cut a hole where the leathers go. Will see if that protects the saddle untill I find some soft leathers. Doesn't seem to be much in eBay so will have to shop around.

Ahh I saw some of those on eBay, we're on offer for 49.99 but it said to check they would fit the make of saddle you want them for.

Any of the wraped type leathers will be softer, just be aware that if you put your leathers under the flap, they won't pull off anywhere near as easily in the event of a fall.

I use albion conditioner, ace stuff, best bar none. Just clean with a well wrung out sponge or cloth, give a few mins for any tiny bit of dampness to come off then wipe over with the conditioner. Less is more, you won't help your tack by drowning it in it!

I've seen neoprene ones also, I thought they were originally to stop leathers pinching people's legs. But they would stop the marking I'd imagine.
