I have some Lister Stablemate clippers that are well over ten years old now and I think they've had it! Despite having had a fairly easy life (never clipped more tham one horse each year) and the fact that they've been serviced and have freshly sharpened blades, they seem to struggle and it takes me forever to clip.

So, what would you recommend as a replacement? Are the newer Listers worth going for or are Liveryman better?

I have two sets of blades for the Listers, is it likely that these blades will fit on a new set?

Also, are clippers that run off a battery pack any good?

I don't want to spend a fortune, but would like some that will last a few years.

Many thanks in advance x

I've had a pair of Wolsey Princess clippers for ten years now. Just done a couple of horses twice a winter and they're still going stong. The blades are sharpened every year but I've never had them serviced:o You've made me think about it now! Before that I had a pair of heavy duty Wolsey clippers that I bought second hand at 8 yo and had them for another 5-6 years then they were stolen.

Hi, by the sounds of things there should be no reason for throwing your existing pair away. Repairing them would be much cheaper than buying a new set. If they are not completely dead then there are only a couple of possibilities as to what the fault could be. At most you will need a new head or gear.
If you really want a new clipper then I would have to reccomend a heineger progress or aesculap econom, preferably the latter. they are light, powerful and as reliable as you can get. You will need new blades as your lister blades will not fit them.
I fix clippers and sharpen blades for a living and the above is a recommendation from experience. If I can be of assistance re: repairing your existing set then please PM me. I know you said they have recently been serviced but one companies idea of a service differs from another and you can get anything from a blowout and a dollop of grease on your gear to a complete strip down, clean and lubrication of the relevant points.
These machines are not complicated and there are only x amount of fault possibilities which can all be corrected. It is also helpful for a company to have your blades and the clipper at the same time as different combinations of clippers and blade sets may or may not work with eachother.
Hope thats helpful!
