Recommendation please for a childs body protector

One that fits!

No, seriously, IMO it isn't the make that is important, it is the way that it fits your child. I would go to your saddlers & try on a few different ones if you can.

Thanks Arwen, hadn't thought about the fit, more of a label person really

, seriously yes you are right going to try them on would make more sense.

Weebler, I too have looked at the Rodney Powell and they do seem better in the sizing, must say that the Jack Ellis fited nicely, its just getting that little bit too small.

Totally agree, doesn't matter what it says on the label (size or make!) it depends on the shape of the child. It took me ages to find one that my son could actually ride comfortably in as well, so it's good if they can sit on a saddle on a rack in the shop to make sure

RP will swap fronts and backs till you get a good safe fit. Its the only company that I know will do this. Only reason I got a HH was that she needed it asap as I will not let her ride without one.

Go to a shop that stocks a good selection of them and where the staff are trained to fit them. Buy the one that fits correctly... it could be the bees knees brand, or an economy one. They can be quite useless or even dangerous (make it impossible for the child to ride with a good independent seat) if they are not spot on. Different designs and makes suit different conformations... depends if your child is a cobby/native type or more of an elegant sort

Thanks YorkshireLass, my son is very slight so more like a TB , so I will take him to a shop that sells various makes and see what fits him the best.

I posted this initially as with anything there always seems a brand that doesn't last or wear well or doesn't do what it says on the tin.

I have found with my 12yo daughter that the only body protector she wears without complaint or fuss inspite of other friends and pony club people not wearing one she will wear hers both summer and winter without me having to remind her is the Racesafe, which is very flexible and indeed I bought one myself only for my husband to steal it and modify it to wear for go kart racing!!!!
