We've never had the back man out to any of our horses, so I wouldnt even know where to start!

Ellie is very stiff in canter when schooling. She is fine when hacking, and when not being asked for any form of collection. However, if you ask her to come down on the bit and start working in any form of an outline in canter, she starts to fight and gets 'stuffy'. From the rider's point of view, it doesnt feel like she wont do it, more that she cant or is finding it painful.
I dont compete any more and so I know that a lot of her stiffness will be because she isnt worked constantly in an outline as she was when we used to jump; however I just feel that there may be something a little amiss because although canter has always been her weakest gait, it never used to be this hard for her!

Can anyone recommend a good, gentle back man (or woman!) in the Wiltshire area? I am aware of Tex Gamble but do not know of any other person, and obviously with this kind of thing I am very keen to use someone with a good reputation. Can someone also give me a vague idea of how much they charge for a visit - I have the dentist coming in two weeks for Elz and I need to know how much I have to save up if she's having her back looked at, too!

I don't know where in Wiltshire you are but we are near Bath and use Helen Jacks Hewitt. Very gentle and good with the horses.

Near Bath is good - we are North Wilts (Chippenham/Calne area) so that sounds a possibility! I've just found her website, so thank you!

I have heard that Tex can be a bit rough

Dont know if it's true or not, but once you hear something like that it makes you a bit wary doesnt it!

I use Antony Webber - he's done my horses for twelve years - and I can thoroughly recommend him. He doesn't spend long, but really really knows what he is doing. PM me for his number if you like

ETS: Last time he came to me, in January, he charged £65.

Tex Gamble who does clinics at West Wilts ec is very very good. Weve had him out to do all our horses, and most of the liveries, and have to say have only had good results from what hes done

I have heard a lot about Tex... I don't use him.
The best chiropractor I have had out is Neil Saunders (McTimoney). He's from up Oxford way I think, but he came to us a while back and we're near Salisbury. He was just fab. No-one has ever really found much wrong with my horse before, but she's always had little issues. Neil showed me a lot of things that were little and big issues, and they all explained a lot. My horse was lame for a day or two after (she has an old tendon injury and has been compensating with her good leg for so long that Neil disturbed a few things, even though he was very gentle and careful!) but ever since she came sound again she has never walked better - even before I bought her she could never open her shoulders downhill and shuffled instead, now she can almost stride downhill! I was so impressed. £50 well spent, and another indespensible member of Maiden's "team" has been added to the list

Hi,
Thinking about getting my horse's back seen to. Anyone still have Antony Webber number? he sounds highly recommended. If he is still working that is...

I use Gavin Schofield, and he's amazing. Fairly difficult to get hold of, and you usually have to travel your horse to a local yard (he visits several on a regular basis). However, dispite this, I would not use anyone else - he's worked wonders on my horses, and has even managed to keep my going (which is an incredible feat of wizardry which no other back person has managed!)

PM me if you'd like his details :-)

I use Chloe Morten (McTimony). She's based near Pewsey and has a nice quiet and gentle way with horses (even when Boo was trying to kick her on her first visit!). Think the last time I had her she was £35.
