I'm looking to buy an unbacked or just started 3/4 year old and I'd ideally like to go over to Ireland for the weekend and see lots of different horses. Im looking for something quite specific (ISH with a good dose of WB for movement and fairly small around 15.3/16hh) I was wondering if anyone could recommend an agent who offers this sort of thing?

You could try Shaun & Sally Parkyn near Kilkenny - just Google them. Same goes for Mel & Steve Jones, Classical Sport Horses. They are all ex-pats and have some very good contacts in Ireland.

If you want to see different types then I'd recommend going to Dublin horse show at start of August, there will be plenty there and the majority of 4/5 year olds will be for sale!

.....only if you want to pay silly prices....

It depends how good a horse you want. Most horses aren't silly prices unless you want to buy the top 5 of young event horses. Or the winner of the 3 year old loose jumping.

tbh at least you will see only good quality horses that deserve the money rather than traipsing the country for a nice one. I've been very tempted by a couple but I don't need another horse.
Plus many of the horses for sale at Dublin will be the same price a month later - quality keeps!!

Cortez you shouldn't be so negative about your own country's major horse selling show, Dublin brings out the best quality horses and you can see the breeding you like so even if you don't buy then you can look for similarly bred horses later.

So get the Horse Police to arrest me....Dublin is a place where people go completely mad and ask ridiculous prices. There is no qualifying for Dublin (in the showing classes), anyone can enter, the so called "vetting" is a cursory affair, and there are much nicer horses to be found if you make the effort. There are 100's of unbacked horses for sale at either Goresbridge or Cavan sales; go there and look.

When the entry fee is about €200 for showing and then stabling and parking on top there's not much point in taking poor quality horses.

I agree with Cortez, there is no shortage of good quality youngsters in Ireland for sensible money.
When I was looking I went no where near the Dublin show and still got an absolutly stunning amazing horse, probably for a 10th of the price he would have gone for at Dublin.
