Hi,

I am in the lucky position of soon having a new arena built and was hoping that people might be able to recommend from personal experience. It will be a 20x 60, I would prefer not to have to irrigate it (which is necessary for my current one which gets deep in summer), equally I would prefer -if possible - to avoid paying out for a top of the range Martin Collins arena!
Would be really really grateful of any views...

Many thanks!

Lucky you! We think all we can manage is to take the top off our (very, very) sandy soiled paddock with a digger and manage with several loads of crag. Other people have done the same around here and it has worked, in some cases, very successfully. Wish I could afford a proper one though! Good luck.

Thanks for your reply! I'm afraid I was not really clear in my question - I am being greedy and the new arena will be in addition to the already existing 20x40 one ( so resurfacing is not what I want to do). Any recommendations of constructors for new arena would be great.

Can I ask what Crag is? I have a very sandy field also & was thinking of doing the same, & our field is about 2ft higher than the surrounding land, It was built up just before the second WW War, so all the sandy soil that's higher than the surrounding land is actually silt from the local mill pond! our field never has a puddle in it, coz it all drains in to the surrounding land!

I have my arena put in last year. After getting 3 quotes - haven't you noticed that anything with Equi on it comes out far more expensive.
I too got Martin Collins to quote and it was an arm and a leg.

I purchased the kit from a local building company - which consisted of fencing, kick boards, gates, drainage and membrane.

then purchased all the aggregates separately. Finished it off with silicon sand and rubber. Its brilliant.

I reckoned I saved around £5k on having a company do it. A local builder who had put in a few other arenas did it. It was complete in a month - with very little mess.

I live in the Kent area.
