Please help me as I am stuck. I am competing in an unaffilated dressage competition on Saturday. I normally wear a pair of black jodpher boots and a pair of leather half chap gaiters. I have owned this particular brand for about 18 months and have only worn them at events. Now, my right gaiter zip has broken and the saddlery says that it will cost £25 to mend it. The gaiters cost me £45.

I have gone out and bought a new pair which is the next size up for calf length than my broken ones. But, there are just too gappy. And now cost £53! The saddlery can not get me the smaller size for Saturday.

Can any one recommend any gaiters or should I think that about investing the money into a pair of long boots. I have been put off wearing long boots in competitions as I had my knee ligament reconstructed and have got a skin graft around where the long boot comes and it hurt like hell.

Please could you offer advice.

Thanks in advance.

I have a pair of gaiters from the english gaiter company that look really smart and have worn really well, i've had them for ages and they still look spanky!
Also have a pair of Segio Grasso Vicenza boots that are amazingly comfy, didn't take any breaking in and come in lots of different widths, they even fit my skinny sticks for legs. Doesn't even feel like your wearing them.

If you want a nice pair of long competition boots that don't cost earth, cheap and cheerful but look and fit lovely, nice soft leather too, I'd highly recommend these, I tried them on last month (I have a boot fetish!) and out of all the other makes (which were a lot more expensive, there were actually my favourite and looked and felt much better than the others) in fact they looked nicer than my Petrie's, not sure how long they would last but if your just using them for dressage comps then I'd certainly try a pair, there on my Crimbo wish list anyway.
