Further to my Overa Farm post, I would be interested to hear any recommendations for yards selling ordinary allrounders suitable for riding club/hunting (has to be a yard as I cant seem to sell my horse privately so am looking to trade him in) in the south (although would travel a reasonable distance for a nice horse from a reputable yard)

Thank you

Just remember they will give you next to nothing for your horse and you won't know where he is going. Also if your horse is a problem horse and they are willing to sell it on what does that say about them.
Sorry to be so negative but I had a bad experience once when we did this

You are probably best selling your horse a bit cheaper and going to a dealers with cash, you'll get a better deal.

or perhaps I am better selling him privately and just being patient (there's nothing wrong with him, perhaps he looks dubious because he's cheap, I dont know!) and then buying privately. I just dont know!!!

Im looking to change horses because I have a 2 yr old boy who has a small pony which Id like to be able to ride and lead off my horse, and Id also like to hunt regularly - my current horse is a 17.2 ex steeplechaser who is not suitable to lead a tiny pony from, and who is too strong for me to hunt (although he was very good when I took him out hunting - just very strong for an 8 stone weakling like me!) Ive had him 6 yrs and am loathe to try to sell him as he's very sweet and kind and a real personality. I was planning to ask around £1750 for him but if the shoe was on the other foot Id be wary of his price and assume there was something wrong!!

Ohh you live near me!!!

Id hang on to your boy and try to sell him privately, at least then you know where hes going! Cant really recommend any dealers as there doesnt seem to be many in the area that I know of... Not good honest dealers anyway!

Good luck with selling your boy and finding a new one xx

your horse sounds like a great deal and you're prob right it does set alarm bells ringing if they are too cheap. I agree that i would be loathe to sell him to a dealer- i reckon you'll sell him just may take longer as he's a large lad at 17.2hh and cuts the market down a bit.

Where are you advertising him?

H&H this week, I have dropped the price as now Ive decided to sell him, I want to sell him quickly before I change my mind - he isnt everyones cup of tea, can be forward going and a bit silly - but equally he is a very nice chap who I have enjoyed over the years Ive had him. Im sure Ill find his perfect partner somewhere!
