The flies have arrived! I need to get my TB a new fly rug, as my old Masta one he used last year was not very good, it slipped, it rubbed a bit, and a lot of flies used to get underneath and become trapped between him and the rug.

He's very sensitive to fly bites, and even came in yesterday with a couple of swellings already.

So.. I like the horsewear range. I like the look of their sweet itch hoody.
If anyone has used it, please can you give me your thoughts (as they're not cheap!) :-
* Does the hood stay up if you don't have the ears in place?
* Is it made out of a thick material? i.e do they sweat in it, in hot weather?
* Are they a nice fit for a TB?
* Do they rub hair off the shoulders or mane at all?
* Would you recommend?

Any other recommended brands and makes?

My old ConniexArab boy suffered from SI terribly and the Ramboo SI Hoodie was his best friend, I tried cheaper copies and they weren't very good. They don't rub, keep the coat really shinny and keeps the bitting beggers at bay really well.

A few tips - put a fly mask, with ears, under the ear holes of the rug, my only criticism of this rug is that sometimes the ears rubbed a little a this stopped that problem.

Coat the rug in fly spray - doubles its effectiveness.

Wash it reguarly - have two and wash at least once a fortnight

Give them some 'time out' in a stable without it on everyday - just to let their skin breathe... otherwise I found he became quite scurfy...

Overall though both he and I loved it - infact he would pull it off the stable door to have it put back on again when you were grooming him!

Good luck!

ive got the Sweet itch hoody for my 17.3hh WB mare. she hates the bit that goes over her ears (very head shy after an accident) inevitably she will manage to get it back over her ears and it just creases up at the top of her neck. the neck never falls down. I have another for my Welsh D and she isnt bothered at all byt the head bit and hers stays put what ever she does.
Neither of them have ever sweated up under them even with the waterproof liners underneath, and never had any rug rubs to shoulders or mane with them.
Id definitely recommend them although they are very expensive. Id also recommend the Mark Todd combo fly rugs - ive got the silver ones.
