Recommendations for hat silk

The hat silk that came with my hat (regular Charles Owen vented) had become bent and lost its elastic and eventually blew off on the beach this Sunday. Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on particularly good ones? I just need a black silk that will not bend down that is smart enough to compete in and won't fall apart in a couple months. Does it really matter which one you get or are they all pretty samey? Only ever had ones that have come with my hats and sadly they have all been nicked or lost so now I must by one. TIA x

It depends how much you want to spend and how big or small you want the peak to be. Ornella Prosperi, Breeze Up and Gibsons make them for racing/riding out so have small peaks.

If your worried about it blowing off you can get big elastic bands to put round the, - but a posty band works just as well!

Get some sticky Velcro to keep them down
I'm in love with the Stockinjur faux fur Pom Pom hat silks at the minute, they bring out my inner child. But my competition silk is just a plain navy velvet on my HS1

Gatehouse silks are plain but have wide elastic band which is great for keeping it on skullcap. I have lovely dove grey velvet cover with faux fur bobble for everyday

There will be different ones available at your local tack shop, they are not that expensive. I prefer elastic ones, to ones you tie on. I cover mine for every day use with a rider be seen knitted bobble hat cover in black and yellow, I also have a pink and black one. I also have the matching ear covers
Why not invest in two, one to ride in and one to compete in. They are only about £12 .

You can replace the Charles Owen ones - if you want the venting on your hat to work as designed you'll need mesh in the correct places. We have "good" CO hat silks in black and blue for competition as well as the everyday ones. I don't know how old your CO hat was but the current CO silks come with Velcro on the sides which latches on to the hat lining so they stay in place better.

The absolute stickiest hat silk we have is a caldene one made for hunting with a triple row of shirred elastic on the rim and velcro strips. Nothing is getting that sucker off!! But it has no mesh so obscures the venting. Doesn't matter int he winder but would be a pain in summer.
