I don't mean endurance as such, but for long hacks of 20 miles - my knees get really locked and stiff after a couple of hours and I'd like something that will help that - any ideas please.

Sprengers every time. Couldn't be without mine now. Bought them on ebay for a lot less than new.

Invest and you'll be so much comfier!

I have the orginal Sprengers which are amazing but they are all GBP 100 plus. When I looked to get a second and third pair I was recommended the Dever equivalent and I cannot tell the difference, these are about GBP 45 (or at least when I bought them).

So these are the Dever flexi stirrup irons? Just seen them for £35

They must be. It is so long since I bought them. I hunt all day using them with no problem, I even bought them for a hunting friend with knee problems which are no longer a problem.

The compositi ones have springs under the treads so are real shock absorbers - they're black so not very traditional but very comfy for long rides, especially cantering in a forward position. Very reasonable too.

Great - don't care what they look like! Do you have a link to them so I can buy online?

I used to have exactly the same problem. I bought Sprenger flexi imitations, Shires I think for about £20. Still going strong and I do 40km TREC & 30km Endurance now! I also found altering stirrup length by a hole part way through ride helped, also gets off and walk for a few minutes occasionally which is good for horse's back too of course. Heather Moffatt seat saver.

Sorry, can't link to them as haven't worked out how to copy and paste on new phone (!) but google Compositi Reflex stirrups and they come up on the Rideaway site, Zilco seem to have taken them on now. Zara Phillips used them to event in when they first came out a few years ago - they are a bit more expensive now than when I bought mine! They are great.

I have a pair. I hate them :o

Did nothing for pain / locking, and I found them awkward to ride in - they're too lightweight and flimsy. Maybe it's my dodgy ankles thats the issue, but they were the whole reason I bought them!

Another note - don't buy them from The Saddlery Shop. They got back to me a week later to say I'd have to wait a month on delivery. Bad all round!

oh dear... just ordered them from the saddlery shop.... never mind. I've lived without out them for about 40 yrs so another month won't matter :(

Ah. Fingers crossed - hopefully I was just unlucky! Just keep an eye on whether they've been dispatched, and make sure you chase if they seem to be dragging their heels.
