I want a rug that covers up as much of my horse as possible - at the best price, has anyone got any suggestions or any to avoid for a very chunky 15.2hh. I would also like to keep his mane, so a detachable neck would be great.

I've always used Boett sweet itch rugs and they are fantastic but very pricey. However my yard has barbed wire as fencing so my mare shredded her Boett. I've found de meulenkamp rugs really good, they're quite a bit cheaper than Boetts but still as good. They don't have detachable necks, more like a big onesie but they are the best for sweet itch sufferers and my mare has gone from having a bald mane to a long thick flowing one! They're also really good for 'self grooming' the horse and leave a shine like no other to the coat!

here's the link for the de meulenkamp and boett rugs:

I like the Masta sweet itch set which is similar but a bit cheaper

Everyone has their favourites (mine is the Snuggy Hood set) but having a few different sweet itch rugs I would say that fit has to be the number one consideration, you can spend as much as you like but if the fit isnt spot on your (and the pony's) life will be made so much harder

Boett.

Apart from being the best on the market, they are the only ones deep enough to cover my Friesian (unfortunately over the rainbow bridge). I tried the cheaper ones but they just didn't cut the mustard as not deep/big enough nor were they terribly effective. She did have severe SI however so guess the others could work if you have a horse with a milder condition.

If it's for sweetitch then a proper body stocking type rug. But if it's just to be an effective fly rug (as I wanted) then I'm pleased with the Shires sweetitch combo I've just bought.
