Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a joint supplement.

I've been feeding T.E.N challenged joints for the past 12 months and it's helped loosen up my stiff old lad. He's not got arthritis but is showing signs in his back legs and takes about 10 mins to warm up when ridden.

Unfortunately they're now shutting down and have none left in stock! Apparently the ingredients were:

'T.E.N. Challenged Joints contains high levels of glucosamine, MSM, hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulphate, as well as rosehips, boswellia and omega 3. These ingredients have been carefully selected for their properties, to help support joint health.

Can anyone recommend anything similar?

Thanks :)

I would personally try him on straight devils claw powder, I have found it gives the best results. I had a couple of horses on Cortaflex for some time and couldn't honestly say I noticed a difference.

Synoquin is generally the one the vets advise .
I have used several and have defiantly seen differences on the cortaflex liquid .

I feed my 2 Feedmarks 'ActiVet'. One of mine is retired with ligament problems and the other is in full work; both thrive on it and i recommend it. I really noticed a difference when i stopped feeding it for a period of time. I also feed Copra alongside for oil.
Ingredients:
Boswellia serrata (26.5%)
Micronised linseed
Full fat soya
Glucosamine hydrochloride (vegetarian) (11.0%)
MSM (8.8%)
Magnesium oxide
Maize meal.

can totally recommend the HackUp bespoke joint supplement! Our two look and feel amazing, Tom hunted last season and didn't need any bute to keep him comfortable. It works out as excellent value for money, and you can spread the cost of a big tub over a few months to help out with budgets! And Alex and his team are so helpful to boot :) love them!

I last did serious joint supplement shopping a couple of years ago as my new horse doesn't need it, so this recommendation might be out of date, but to get the right amount of glucosamine and chondroitin relative to one another, I found the Scientific Nutritional Products joint supplement to be one of the best I could track down. It's pretty reasonably priced if you buy a big tub, but you do need to feed it at twice the recommended dose in order to get a decent therapeutic dose into the horse.
Having said that, different supplements seem to work better on different horses. I have one friend who swears by Newmarket joint supplement and another finds Maxavita works best for hers. You might just have to experiment with a few.
Such a pain when you've found one that works for your horse and then the blighters stop making it!

It's seriously expensive stuff but I've used Stride HA by TRM before with huge success on my old lamanitic/arthritic pony. He literally had a new lease of life when he was fed it - although that's what you would hope for for £90 a bottle...

Mum feeds turmeric (& pepper & oil) to her stiff, "clicky" horse and it makes a vast difference to him.

I feed turmeric with Aviform Supplease Gold to my "had a very hard life and is knackered" ex racer and there was a noticeable improvement.

Yes I've thought about turmeric but I don't understand the pepper/ oil bit - it has to be a really accurate balance doesn't it?

I use natures bute powder by Pegasus health has completely changed my mare for the better its boswellia have tried many supplements injections and cartrophen which worked for a while then stopped this is the best results by far she has arthritis in back and hocks always now recommended this

^^^^^ This! Naturebute is straight Boswellia Serrata.
As Boswellia is the main ingredient in the TENS you've been using I would definately try this. I've used Boswellia for YEARS on various horses with great results. Its only fairly recently they've been adding it (along with Turmeric) to made up supplements.
I feed it alongside Vetroflex Senior which although not cheap, it works brilliant on my pony who is arthritic, has dust/pollen allergy & defunct immune system so it's worth every penny!
I've also used Vetrofen Healthy which Is Acacia catechu, Boswellia and Curcumin, with added black pepper to aid absorption. The curcumin is from Fenugreek which is important for him as Turmeric upsets his gut.

Global Herbs do Tumeric withBlack Pepper already added and give a suggested dosage. As long as you are feeding linseed (micronised linseed is cheap and very good for coats and joints) there is no magic formula.

Gold Label do a joint supplement called, I think, NoBute, which is Devils Claw and Yukka. It worked very well for a mare that was starting to stiffen up and it's also very inexpensive.

I've tried several things with my stiff hocked pony. The best I've found is Tumeric (with pepper and micronized linseed as mentioned above) and magnetic hock boots.

The combination of the 2 have done wonders for him. As much turnout as possible and also a proper warm up when riding has helped too.

It sounds ridiculous but I make sure I now walk him for at least 10 minutes on a long rein before I even think about a normal warm up. Means you're riding for longer, or doing less actual schooling but it has really made a difference. He softens and loosens up a lot quicker now :)
