Recommended shavings?

Well, that's it, the yard has pretty much run out of straw now, so going to have to put both LBO and the Baggage on shavings of some kind but which one?
LBO has breathing problems, so has to be as dust free as possible & the Baggage can't have anything even remotely edible or she'll try eating it!

Have used Easibed for LBO but my back is so bad now, I can't shift this any more, as it's so bl**dy heavy!
I'd like something softer too, as LBO is pretty old & likes to lie down on a soft, snuggly bed!
We will be poo-picking & digging out once a week, maybe twice for widdly piddly LBO!

Any ideas?

I don't know if it's available by you but I use 'Natural Flake' shavings....they are quite large & make the mucking out quite easy. They are dust extracted aswell so would suit your horse. I pay around £5.50 a bale & only get through about a bale a week....but he is pretty clean most of the time

I use flax bedding and love it. The bags are not too heavy I did try easy bed but agree tooo heavy

Bedmax is dust free and is like large shavings, and is easy to muck out. Me and sis use handrachip but it can get a tad dusty.

My fav shavings are Hunters.

Alternatively I really liked megazorb - though it is heavy when you do eventually dig out the bed but it is a really good deep litter system - take out poo daily and dig out pee spot every other week and leave the rest - really soaks up the pee - might be great for the old chap.

It also forms a very thick bed which does not move - even Stinky did not dig it up once established.

Bedmax - Totally dust free and doesn't move too much, or pack in their feet.

Arrgghh, so much choice!
It will probably be Bedmax for the Baggage then & I will 'experiment' on poor LBO with that & some of the others & see which one he likes best!
(LBO spoilt? Nah! lol)

Have tried lots of different ones but always gone back to using Hunters. Very consistent quality and one bag seems to go further than some of the other brands.

Agree Hunters seem the best quality I have found. Didn't like Bed Max - it didn't seem to go very far, didn't really fluff up at all so had to use a lot more to get a decent bed and then disintegrates quite quickly ie I got a lot of powdery stuff in my bed.
