Hello. Could anyone please share any information about the length of recovery time after ovary removal? The surgeon has said she needs six weeks box rest, with short periods of in hand walking in the final weeks.

Hi, welcome to the forum.
Can't answer your question but I noticed you didn't get replies, so this should put your thread back up the list where someone will see it! :D

Hi, my mare has had both ovaries removed although 2 years apart, she was 6 weeks without work both times , 2 weeks box rest then turn out, I think small paddock before bringing back to work. Her latest op was in March this year so because it was so wet I had to graze in hand so she ended up having 4 weeks box rest. the staples are taken out 10 days after procedure roughly then it’s just the healing of the scar . If you have the choice and don’t want to breed I would have both removed at once , I didn’t and regretted it as she had a GCT tumor in one but behaviour was still present so I pushed for the other one to be removed and it had cells in it that hadn’t yet formed a tumour. To be honest it was back in work with just some fittening time when I brought her back in
