My 19 gelding has been suffering with a viral infection. It started in Jan/Feb this year. Blood test revealed his white blood cell count was low with some anemia which indicated a virus. He was rested for 3 weeks and then brought back into work with gentle hacks. He seemed to recover quite well but then he relapsed. Again, blood was tested and this showed raised liver enzymes. Rested again for at least 2 months. I gave him Milk Thistle with Global Herbs Immuplus & Global Herbs Restore to try to help him.
Brought him back extremely carefully into work (just hacking). Everything seemed to be fine then last week he suddenly got lethargic again so I immediately stopped riding and have turned him out to rest.
I was told early on in the year by the vet that he could be given some immune boosting injections. Has anyone had any experience of these jabs? has anyone had a similar experience with their horse and if so how long did it take for the horse to get back to normality? any info appreciated.
thanks.
