I have been searching through the forum and there has been varied reviews on both. I wondered if anyone fed them and what you thought was best. I take it Topspec is more expensive? But I have read some fantastic reviews. Also, does the Rem Mills contain a hoof supplement like the Topspec balancer? It is for putting weight and condition on. Also, if Red Mills what product would you suggest for a 15.2hh TB ex racer?

Thanks,

Laura.

We feed Redmills at my yard - hunters, youngsters, broodmares, riding horses.

They all look wonderful - and it would be may preference of feed every time now.

I am on livery on a pro yard, and her and her boyfriend (also a top level eventer!) use Red Mills, and their horses do look well on it. I use Topspec, and really rate it. I am using the comprehensive supplement and their cool condition cubes for my 4yr old at the moment, and her coat is looking fantastic, she is starting to fill out and she has just the right amounts of energy on very little feed. My last horse was also on Topspec and always looked fantastic. It improved his feet no end.

Thanks. I think we are going to add the Topspec balancer to his feed to start with to improve his coat/feet condition and hopefully build him up a bit. We already feed Baileys and I am going to switch from Alfafa to Alfafa Oil. I dont want to change to much all at the same time so if he still doesn't start to fill out will swap Baileys for Cool condition cubes which is what we were going to consider.

Thanks for the replies.

Laura.

Thats basically what mine is fed, Alfa Oil, Speedibeet, Cool condition cubes, and comprehensive. It was also the diet for my boy when he was a baby, and they do do well off it

I've got my ex racer on the Top Spec Balancer, with the Top spec conditioning flakes, Herbal chaff and use a scoop of calm and condtion to wet it as she loves it, and being a fussy eater need her to clean her bowl out.

We are not doing good at actually putting weight on, but I do quite a lot with her but she is fab on it in every other way!

I have mine on Topspec, and he looks very good for it, his feet are much better than before, and has a lovely shine to his coat, would definately recommend.

Sorry I have no experience on Red Mills though

Red Mills is an Irish feed manufacturer (based in Goresbridge - right beside the sales complex) and they do the usual range of feeds , but to me Topspec is more of a feed balancer. So depends what you require.

We feed Red Mills at home (as it the only one that our local feed merchant stocks!) and all the horses seem to thrive on it.

I used to use Blue Chip on my horses, but now I have stopped it for a couple of reasons. Firstly it's just too expensive now. Secondly my horses are in great condition & no longer need it. I changed over to Baileys No 14 Lo Cal Balancer 12 months ago & they have continued to look great & it's about £15 a bag cheaper.

Sorry, I've never heard of Red Mills, never seen it at feed stores in my area so cannot comment on it.

We feed Top Spec balancer to our horses and they all do really well on it. You don't have to feed much but it ensures they have all their vitamins and mineras. All of them have fantastic feet too.
