Hi guys,

We moved into our new house two days ago, and brought both our horses with us (each from different livery yards). Both seem to be doing really well and have settled in quite happily.

Howver, our piebald gelding has red spots on his muzzle. He had a few yesterday that we noticed, but they looked a bit like he's been in the brambles, as they feel a bit like scabs on top. We turned him out last night and brought him back in this morning and there are more, now inside his nostril. Checked on him after lunch and we think (but not sure) that there are more.

They're not sore to touch, and only one or two are actually bleeding.

Any ideas?!?

Have you got loads of buttercups in the field?

If so it could be blistering from those.

If not sounds like he is reacting to something maybe?

Hiya,

We don't have any buttercups in the field, no. Its not sunburn because we keep them in during the day - and its not been that hot recently anyway, distinctly grey!

I think it must be a reaction to something, or an insect? But we just can't think what.

Thanks guysss xxxx

Maybe you could try smothering his nose in sudacream to see if it stops any more appearing, also the cream should help it to heal etc.

It's so frustrating not knowing what is the cause of problems like this.

But as you've just moved i would imagine it would be a reaction to something.

Hope he is better soon and no more appear.

QuobAsti, thanks for your reply. I'm sure you're right about it just being a reaction to something. Just can't think what!!! Its so infuriating. Also, the first time we've had the horses at home with no livery or anything, so annoying for him to have problems 2 days in!

Any more ideas are extremely welcome. xxxxx
