Redhouse xc in York

Has anyone been?

It looks fab! I definitely want to go there at some point, but I wondered if anyone else has been there and what they thought

I haven't been for years, but it is good, and has some traditional old school fences, telegraph poles and such. The water is a bit dark and uninviting, like water fences used to be! lol

They do have portables now which are good, but as with anywhere, I'd check they're fixed before you jump them. The ground there is on clay and can get rock hard when there has been no rain for a while, I would recommend pointy studs if its hard as have seen (and been on!) horses slip there.

As what stencil face says really, spent a lot of time in pony club days doing xc up there although I think there are nicer ones in the area.

I really like thornthorpe up near Malton as well as courses for horses at stamford bridge.

Northallerton also have their courses open for schooling as well as helen bells - both of which are built to BE spec

Ill look into the courses you mention, but I need small courses. Im not confident over big fences (and hes a baby so we need small to teach him anyway), and I like that Redhouse have some nice small ones.
Going to try Howden at some point, they have a nice looking course too

Jimmy doesnt have shoes so Ill have to avoid it if its slippy, :/

The ones at Thornthorpe are 1ft 6in to 3ft 4in

We went to Howden last week with a youngster for its first time & it was perfect for her not too big, nice & inviting but a very long walk round for us non riders lol! We were out on the course for 3.5 hours, had to miss out the last 10 or so jumps (there are 42!) because she was knackered!! Xx

The Manor Farm course outside Howden is perfect for babies and novice riders.

We used to go to Red House a lot, in fact one of the photos of the XC (the last element of the Moat Complex is my daughter and her pony). There are lots of challenges (a huge drop fence!) but lots of smaller ones too. I had to laugh at the dark, murky water, as said daughter once did a nose dive in there!
